"I'd invested so much in that place, and I feel so f*cked over. That's why it's so frustrating. We didn't follow any of our company values today." A quote from the article Biz Carson wrote on TripActions firing ~300 people over Zoom. I can't imagine how gut wrenching it must be to fire that many people. The company had to make one of the biggest calls of it's life to survive. That's why the way they did it is so shocking. See, TripActions raised $250 million in 2019 and in February secured a $500 million debt facility for a new product. Last week, the CEO did an all hands meeting joking and laughing about the rough 6-9 months ahead. Many employees felt huge relief from the tone of the meeting. Things were going to be okay. There was zero warning for the town hall firing that was about to happen. 100 people in one meeting and about another 200 in another. Managers were asked just days prior to force stack rank all employees for another mundane QBR. Turns out those rankings were used to mass fire. "We watched people in tears and so many people were confused because they joined a few moments late." Shortly after, slack, email, and all computer access was cut. Channels were muted and many had no idea what was going on. How you do things matters just as much as what you do.

Hey Belal, sorry to hear about that. I think this whole time is scary enough as it is and having to worry about employment  is a whole different worry.

It is heart-wrenching to hear of these sorts of things happening... what happened to being human and possessing at least some compassion when unavoidable decisions must be made?

There’s always a higher road.
