How did I get here?

After backpacking around the planet for 2 years, I decided to return home and try and figure out what to do with my degree in Biochemistry.

Let me summarize just how hard it was to get my first career job with the following statement I heard all too often "I just don't see how your degree in Biochemistry is relevant in the business world..."

I was able to get a job at Canada's largest bank, in Toronto and started my career in 1990 - pre internet, pre cell phones, pre email addresses...hard to believe right?

Anyhow in 1995 I decided to apply for a role in technology with a company based in Vancouver who developed and was selling a revolutionary client server banking platform. This was my entry into technology and from there I worked through a variety of roles in Industry, Consulting and directly working for leading global Software Vendors.

Hi Dean! Really!? I’ve always thought you had been a biology or English teacher for a short time, since the day you interviewed me. Oh well, you’re still one of the coolest people I know 😃
