Managing Our Shadows
Here in Kevin's community, he encourages us to talk about how to live better, happier, more fulfilling lives. Happiness sells, IMHO. If you aren't happy with yourself, you can play the game that "life is wonderful" sometimes for years before it backs up on you like a clogged septic tank.
Increasingly, I've seen more conversation popping up about mental health and the impact on sales. Though mental health means different things to different people, and I believe it is somewhat of an epidemic in our society, there is no question that if you don't take care of yourself, your ability as a salesperson to be in service to current and future customers is sorely impacted, and usually not for the positive.
Great suggestions have been made in this forum about how to quell the inner stuff that might be getting in our way. And, sometimes I find that we, as humans, often search for answers outside ourselves when things are not going well. I know I have. Ultimately, if we want to solve challenges or unlock the door to more happiness and success in life, we have to keep in mind that it is an inside job.
As I'm re-evaluating some things in my own life and career, I was led to re-read a book I read years ago that others in this group might find useful. It is called The Shadow Effect. https://amzn.to/2T83Rwo
I think part of the reason we have so much depression in our society and people suffer from so much burnout and stress, is because we are trying to live some perfect ideal of who we think the world wants us to be. The wisdom of this book is a reminder that we all have flaws but how we embrace them or try to hide from them makes a huge impact on our happiness meter.
What books, podcast or videos have you found helpful for doing important inner work that leads to more success and happiness in life? I'm always looking to learn!
