What is the best way to educate sales about technical information?

I want to educate the sales team about technical information beyond the receipt of the PO. The information should be engraved into them so they are knowledgeable and they don't reach out to the engineering team for simple answers.

I’ll be blunt to drive a point - an Engineers definition of “simple” is completely different than a sales resource. More importantly though, aren’t you on the same team? Point:  I’m sure that’s not how you meant for your point to come across, but it’s how I read it.  Could it be they’re misinterpreting your willingness to help?  If you ask your ...See more

Hi Mate,  I definitely agree that engineers also need to learn how to discuss things on high level to address to different aspects of the business. My concern is to not utilize engineering time if unnecessary, but I can see how the later part of that statement can be misinterpreted.  Do you have any advice on how to encourage the sales team to ...See more

Your best bet is a slide deck for sales to use as a reference point. If each scenario cannot be explained concisely in 1-2 slides each, it's going to require a larger training element.

Only if anyone will actually use this. You’re better off having them engage more by getting them to try and explain the topic themselves after a training session.

Perhaps finding a person on the sales team who does a good job explaining the technical info that you're wanting everyone to learn, and having them lead a training on how it's helped them get more sales, the language they use to expla...See more

I'm a champion of the Challenger Sales methodology - if we can teach our prospects something important about their world that they did not know before talking to us, we can expect them to call us when they have a need.  I think we can motivate salespeople to learn about technical information by helping them identify and learn what their prospects...See more

Rehman, I live for that approach. Teaching is the best way to build a relationship and later close the deal. I appreciate the feedback and I need to definitely highlight some of these ideas into a PP and have one of the sales guys present it to the team. This would also be a small challenge for myself, to see how well I communicate my point across....See more
