Folks, community is everything.

The night after my surgery, I woke up in the hospital, and was so shaken and disturbed by the images but kept flashing in my mind that I spent the next six hours awake and crying.

I realized that if I was going to survive this, I would need the support of my inner circle, my friends, and my gang.

The next day, I forced myself to reach out, to send text messages and post on social media about what I was going through.

It was the last thing I wanted to do, but I knew I needed to, that it might just be the thing that saved me.

And it was.

Many of the people that played a pivotal role in getting me through this time in life are my friends because of LinkedIn.

Thank you to this platform that grows increasingly annoying but is responsible for some of the best humans I have in my life.

Ashleigh Early was my freaking rock in a million ways and also helped me broaden my circle of women sales sisters during this time by connecting me to Nikki Ivey + Galem Girmay.

In Portland, Julia Andrews, Sylvia Salazar, Nina Church-Adams, Kate Dixon, and Gina Riley have brought me food and flowers, checked in constantly, and let me know I was not alone.

Folks, community is everything.

Do absolutely everything you can to build yours.

You don't know when you'll need it, but I promise you will.
