1 on 1 Agenda Tailored by Age?

Obviously the difference between a Baby Boomer and what they might want to cover in a 1 on 1 is a lot different than a Gen. Z’er. Not to mention based on age and experience you may not have to get into the weeds with the more experienced sellers. Do you guys tailor your agendas/conversations with your team members based on age during your 1 on 1s? If so, what changes? Or is it strictly based on KPIs? Or maybe you don’t change the topics at all. Just curious to hear some stories from people and/or ideas.

I don’t think it’s age related, more experience and what motivates people.

If I’m taking to someone who is 30 and in their first SDR job, I’m still giving the same coaching I would give to a 22 year old, but I might focus on them getting to a house down payment vs. a car down payment.

My boss is at least 30 years older than me. The one disconnect I seem to have with most folks is that I'm not married, nor do I have kids.

Other than that, all the bullshit small talk is about sports, drinking, golf, weather, and weekend plans. Which for the most part shouldn't vary too much by age.

Well it's not applicable since we are all within 5 year age range

I don't tailor it by age but by motivations/aspirations and personality/strengths + KPIs (individual + team + business)

I think you treat on 1-1 as 90% their time to talk about what they want, what their goals are, what’s happening in their lives today (especially during Covid) and what drives them.  The last 10% is for coaching etc. a 1-1 should be treated differently from a pipeline review and a pump up talk.

Yeah-I agree with you to a certain point. But I also struggle when Managers fill up a month with a bunch of reoccurring meetings. We are supposed to be out selling as much as possible, right!?
