10 Sales Recruiters a Day

I work for one of the bigger name tech companies, but my goal is to at one point make two moves to push my base + commish over 200K. I get like 10 LI Recruiter messages a day and my job seeking function is off.

Has anyone made a decision to leave a sure thing for money like a street walker or is staying and padding my LinkedIn tenure a better move?

It never hurts to see what else is out there. Chase your goals and never worry about being "disloyal" to your employer. If you died tomorrow, they'd have an ad up for your replacement before your obituary was out.

I've been telling folks over the last few weeks in here that it won't hurt to take a peek to see what is out there. You won't know until you let the curiosity take you there. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

That's definitely true! There's just times i really feel more like a whore than a loyal employee. "Oh you have money? You want me to drive you where in your fancy car, Richard Gere?"

Just take the call, does you no harm to learn what else is out there. You can make a much more informed decision by doing so than just asking a bunch of people on here how to manage your career.ย

I also feel like it's pretty solid practice for when the right John shows up to make this whore an offer i can't refuse

Now is the best time to look. You don't need to make a move, so you have strong leverage in qualifying your next role.

Take the interview and let them try and win you over. If you get to the end and don't like it, stay where you are at.

Dude, it's like a buyer's market for salespeople. Everyone and their mother is hiring right now, it's bananas

I agree that it never hurts to see what else is out there but I really caution you to believe what these LinkedIn recruiters are telling you.ย

Grass always looks greener on the other side but in a lot of cases people jump ship and it doesn't work out for them in their new position. Or if it does work out, the OTEs the recruiter told them were way off base.

Be leery but always be looking.

No harm in having conversations. If it's a better opportunity, go for it. Just make sure the company is stable enough that you'll actually be able to stay there. Otherwise the money is just a mirage.

I'm always so worried about that, the company i work for is basically one with planet Earth, not going anywhere ever, so that stability is hard to imagine losing, you know?

Oh, absolutely. But you're not going to stay there until you retire, right? You just need somewhere that's going to thrive and not crumble. I took a gig last year that only had about 9 months of runway and I regret it. But that's kind of an extreme case.ย

And thatโ€™s the issue, so I chase the money and enjoy the stability and the autopilot? Eventually I might need to just follow the dollars, but for now Iโ€™m thinking that chillin and padding my LinkedIn tenure is the move

All comes down to individual circumstances and weighing pros and cons. I keep my ears to the ground and recently applied for a role with one of the only companies that would make me consider leaving. For me, I know our package and especially base is below market rate, and the team above mine (most logical next step for promotion) is a death trap. On the other hand, we have industry-leading accelerators I consistently hit, basically zero red tape for structuring deals and are growing consistently. Currently the pros outweigh the cons.ย
