15 y/o startup still has some growing up to do.

I was let go on Monday 11/14, with zero warning, no PIP, no severance. It was the coldest exchange I’d ever had in my entire working history.

No warning, no PIP, no severance…no guts. Sorry to hear this. Have to believe that everything happens for a reason, and you’re going to land in a much better spot. Good luck!

Dang that is horrible! Take some time to take care of your metals during this stressful situation.

After a couple days decompressing, highly recommend using the academy and the war room for any help as you look for your next role

For sure. Already working some leads from the previous industry. The grind keeps going.

I’m so sorry. Sounds like they weren’t willing to fix their own issues. Hope you’ve got something better ahead!

That’s rough. Any details on why?

They claimed the board wasn’t willing to keep me on based on low sales. If there is concern with my sales #s, let’s have a conversation, put me on a PIP, or anything to that effect. But nope…they had their PEO do the dirty work. They couldn’t even face me and then were off the call in 5 mins. But what they refuse to accept is that their own processes didn’t support the sales reps, product and GTM. Zero marketing collateral and a Sr. growth marketer that only posted workout videos on LinkedIn. The product was decent but they had no idea how to tell people about it. In my opinion, I was low man on the totem pole and they didn’t want to accept their own shortcomings.

But hey…their loss. 😉

Weird, how long where you there? Sounds like they needed a scalp, and like you said, low man on the totem pole

That's the tricky part. I was only there since April 2022. I had been recruited by them from my previous company that I had been at for 9 1/2 years. They lured me in with a decent base salary and then cut me loose when I started asking questions and requesting sales enablement tools. They didn't have the oil to fix the squeaky wheel, so they got rid of it.

It makes sense now. Too bad you left a good job. And not even two weeks severance is a low blow.

You need to focus on you now. It’s tough to do but that is what you need to do.

Good luck!

I hope you land on your feet somewhere that will appreciate your skillset and professionalism. Don't let this negative energy dictate your actions. Use this as fuel to get a bigger/better job. It's not IF it's WHEN!

That sucks badly. As you said in one of your comments though, their loss. While its a pain for you, it sounds like you have more than enough experience to pick up a new solid gig.

at 15 years old you don't get to claim to be a startup anymore. any company that tries that is clueless.

Sorry to hear about the layoff. especially one with no severance.

sounds like a shit company and you are finally FREE.

hope you have some finances in order, but hit up unemployment (no shame brother, i used mine to get a cool $3k for the 6 weeks I had in between getting canned and starting my new job). took a lot of the edge off knowing i had SOMETHING flowing into my bank account.

people are saying the market is tough rn (and it undoubtedly is, im speaking from a privileged position) but i got axed middle of October and had my pick of places (and im not even good at my job- yet). mindset is everything. always here to chop it up homie.

Hey there,
Appreciate the candor. I for sure hit up unemployment. No shame here. As I think about it, It’s a need to know basis. Had a few good convos so far, just making sure I’m a bit more diligent this go-around. They call it a ‘risk’ for a reason. Need to ensure it’s a calculated one.

Yikes. Sorry about this but immediate red flag with "15 year old startup". Probably for the best to move onto a new opportunity.
