30 min interview with hiring manager

Hey everyone I'm new here. So happy that I found this community. I'm leaving management to start my career in sales.(I just finished tech sales program)I have a interview for sdr position this week. What should I expect from a 30 min phone interview with the hiring manager and what can I do to stand out? Any tips or suggestions.

Just the basics. Why the move, do you have sales experience. Why sales? Just be up front and have your wins together.

Thank you that helps, the challenge has been my approach to the questions and switching gears from operations management interviews to a sdr role.

1. do some research about the person you're meeting with, know a bit about their background to build rapport/trust at the beginning of the call

2. as @antiASKHOLEsaid, be ready to share some of your wins and why you won / how much business you brought in, good compelling stories on what makes you a good salesperson

3. have a high level understanding of the product, read a few case studies. ask questions about them, be curious

4. have a bank of questions to ask about the role for your own vetting process

5. at the end of the interview, do a soft close. "based on the conversation today, this sounds like an exciting opportunity. do you have any hesitations with moving me on to the next round?"

Perfect, I have done all of the above but will have to focus on number 2. #5 is my go to at the end of my interviews.

also a nice flex if you confirm the time, we have 30 minutes allocated for today, does that still work for you?

if you search in the search bar for interview help / questions, there's a bunch of threads there as well.

Work on a 30/60/90 day plan, customize it with their logo and branding colors, tell them you'd love to share this as a next step in the process.

Make sure you can “show” something. If you don’t have sales experience, be able to express how your previous experience brings an outside perspective that’s valuable.

I’m also a huge fan of the 30/60/90. I was one of the guys for our panel interviews at my last role. There were a couple instances where that was the make or break for a candidate when it was close competition. That is prob next step, but if you have gone through the thought process you’re more inclined to send the proper message and ask questions with value. Questions that, if you move to the next step, will improve your 30/60/90.

Thanks, I currently work for a saas company and manage a team of 18+reps. 7 years of experience in leadership and ops..lots of value. The program provided me a good foundation to build from. I have also learned alot in the past few days of deep diving in the war room. I appreciate all of you and your support.

All excellent advice already given here. Maybe I can try to add 1 more thing:

Create a 1 min loom video of the company's product pitch (doesn't need to be pitch-perfect, does need to be relevant though).

At the end of the interview, share it with the hiring manager with an empathetic and humble mindset.

Doing so would not only make you stand-out, it'd be a quick POC of what you'd have to do in your SDR role as well.

All the best @user1015. Do update us on how the interview went. Welcome to War Room!

That’s awesome. I assume the move is money related and of the opinion that it’s ok to say it if it comes up!

Salary is one of the reasons but not my number 1 reason. I'm completely burnt out, underpaid, not valued, and unfulfilled in my role...Money for me will not motivate me if I do not enjoy what I do..I have other reasons for my motivations but it will start to sound like like a sales pitch so I will stop here 😂
