4 Interviews later they ghosted me

The entire sales org I was a part of was unceremoniously let go Dec '21. I got an interim job with an old employer running a business development team.

I got tired of spinning my wheels with this company and decided to test the job market. I got an interview with for a SaaS AE position in a Series D startup with around 300 employees. They are rebuilding their entire sales team and have brought in new leadership.

I went through 4 interviews with them, with each interviewer expressing how much they liked me and my experience. The final interview was with the Global Head of Sales. He has been at the company for 6 weeks and explained that he didn't know what the next step of the interview process was but that I should be getting an email from the sales recruiter by early the next week to set up a mock demo. (they have been very responsive and on top of scheduling thus far)

That was the last I heard from anyone at this company. It's been nearly 2 weeks since that last interview. I've sent 3x emails to the Sales recruiter, 1 email to the hiring manager that interviewed me a couple weeks back, and left 1 voicemail with him.

I understand this is a competitive industry and new candidates can appear and bump you from contention however I found this to be incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional.

My question is this:

  • What would make a company do this? Is it possible they are organizing their team and waiting to schedule mock demos after deciding on final candidates? How would you handle this on my end? How long would you continue to follow up?

This is pretty frustrating reading it. I'm sorry you aren't getting any communication back.

The only thing I can think of is that the new guy didn't like something you said, but that doesn't give the excuse for a lack of communication.

The thing is the last interviewer commented on how impressed he was with my Rev Attainment in my last position. He was a dry person though so I couldn't get a good read on him. I just want to get on glassdoor and blast these suckas

Are they local - can you go by in person? Anything new on his socials?

It's very possible that they are still organizing, I wouldn't freak out yet. I would probably follow up twice a week for four weeks, weekly for four weeks, and they monthly for a quarter.

I was ghosted by a company for several weeks. On a whim, I sent the guy an email like four months later. Turns out he was in a car accident, and was out of work for a while, and the hiring was put on hold. I was the only person that reached back out after that long, and I got the job.

They are not. It's a fully remote job. I'm so sour on this because it's a 1.5x base pay raise and $150k+ OTE bump as well as remarkable benefits I've never seen anywhere else. It seemed like the perfect opportunity and with the company's product success and longevity, thus far, It felt like a safe move. I'll stick with the follow up game but I have several other opportunities at different stages in my job search pipeline. This threw a wrench into everything.

I spoke with with an SE that confirmed around 40% of reps are hitting quota and repvue and Glassdoor also confirmed. I may have just been out over my skiiโ€™s and not as qualified as I thought

This sucks - hopefully (and it's not ideal b/c you've been ghosted) as that Global Head of Sales was settling in, they have been completely dunked underwater and doesn't have the dept to dept communication process to make anything happen...that's being optimistic but that's entirely too much time and too many interviews to get ZERO resolution and/or response.

I have been there. You just want closure one way or another (preferably with a job offer of course).

You've done everything I would do. They either (1) have someone else they are moving forward with, (2) they are dealing with some crisis, or (3) the job is gone.

I have seen companies keep guys on the hook for months. Its pathetic and lame.

I guess I would give it another week and call them. You can even try to tell them you have a competing offer and would like to know where they are with you.

4 interviews BEFORE doing a mock demo? I'm assuming the screening call is one of those, but that's a lot of hoops in general.
Sorry you're being ghosted. You've reached out across 3 mediums and I'm not sure how much is left in your power to do.
There are many internal things that could have happened. I would keep touching back 1-2x a week but in general I'd move on to other companies in my search.

Never bad to diversify.

Yeah, it's a series D with $100M in the bank. Compensation being $140k/$280K OTE with fully paid insurance, $3k/mo per-child childcare stipend, and 6mo paid PATERNITY leave. And 40% of their reps are hitting quota. I understand the scrutiny and overqualification on their end. However, with that kind of operation, you'd think they have their hiring processes down and they treat their potential employees with a bit more respect.

I hope it's just a case of them not having their ducks in a row just yet, and failing to communicate that to you.

I would continue to follow up on a decreasing cadence until you get resolution. Sorry you're going through this.

Fuck reading this made me upset. At my last job they were radio silent for 3 weeks, but weโ€™re talking series A. My advice would be keep pursuing for a month while applying at other jobs

so many reasons. It's all frustrating to make it through all rounds of the interview process but more often than not they found someone cheaper......

Pointed a prospect to a competitor. They came back 3 months later!
