Depends on if they give more information as to why 6 months is significant. If it’s because of a contract ending in 6 months then we should talk in 3 if it’s just a brush off and they’re not interested then I’d probably say never

Couldn’t agree more. It’s important to know if there really is a cause for the wait or just a brush off.

Agreed. I will usually ask "what changes in six months," and feel them out from there. If they don't have a good reason don't be afraid to call them out and ask if they actually want you to call back in six months.

100% it’s important to understand the “why 6 months” and not now

Yep, agreed. Usually "6 months" means "i can't devote energy to this right now" in my experience, so a check-in after 3-4 months can never hurt – "hey just making sure that original timeline still stands, or if you want to chat about things next week?"

Depends, but I always try to stay in contact with them on a nurture type thing. If their reasoning for 6 months is good, then I'd wait, but it's normally an arbitrary number and in that case I'd reach out sooner

“What will have changed in 6 months?” If their answer holds meritt then I will wait it out. If not, I am calling a month later to call their bluff.

6 months if the reason is legit. 4 months if it's not.

If They don’t give me a reason I usually reach out in a month.

Yeah, I think between that 4 and 4.5-month mark range is perfect unless there is something you know to be true restricting them from moving on any conversations until after that entire 6 month period is up.

I agree, that’s why it’s important to identify the reason for the 6 months!

Depends. I will usually check in at 3 months and keep things light. Just a refresher call more than anything, I'll just re-introduce myself again, summarize what we previously went over and mention that I'll give them a call back in a few months and ask if anything has changed since the last time we spoke.

Summarizing is super important, so they can recall who you are and why you can help!

I usually feed them some news bits through some sequencing and make sure to keep engaging with their socials.

Six months is a long time but sometimes there is a good reason for putting it off for that amount of time - nonetheless, it's always good to stay top of mind

So I had a prospect tell me today to call back in 3 months. This is the second time he has done this. Now the reason is that he was supposed to get funding in May, but the investor fell through.

I said of course, and wished him well with his financing. He didn't sound like it was a brush off, he genuinely sounded sad when he was telling me.

What else could I have done?

I think in these type of scenarios the humanity aspect is key! Acknowledge their pain, and genuinely try to help. If it’s out of your control, try to understand their pain and let them know you are listening and will be there
for them when the time is right.

Trying to help and not sounding like a machine does wonders and prospects will remember you

It a contract ends in 6 months, I want to know how it's going. Even the small comments on success can give me ample info on a new contract. Plus, I'm building relationship dues.

Typically 3 months. Typically I ask tho what is it about 6 months. I will dig deeper and go from there. Typically it's a smoke screen...

Never actually wait a full 6 months, I would say whatever time frame they give you always cut it in half and check in sooner is better than later!
