A BDR being a SALES MANAGER?

I have a coworker who is a BDR and was the only one in the office at the other location. Keeping an AE there has been difficult..

Well, the other day they said that they feel entitled to the sales manager position there, since they are helping with running the office...(typically he is the only one there) and since they are now helping with the 3 new people there, but they are only answering question from not helping them...nort did train those other people like he claims he did...when they went to corporate to be trained.

This BDR has had never hit quota, and has shanky appts that are always cancelling, or do not know what is even going on..

What are your thoughts? I feel like there is no easy way to break it to him..and I'm kinda shocked that he is even still a part of the company tbh! OHH...They barely hit a year with the company too...

I don’t think there’s much point in trying to break the truth to someone that delusional.

This is plain as day: they either will be promoted and fail quickly, or the leadership team will see through their self-righteous bullshit and move on from the idea entirely.

"he/him" Just say She because I know who you are talking about. THAT IS A SOLID NEGATIVE! One must learn to follow first, then to lead. She needs to learn how to follow first.

Are you also applying for the job? Are you the hiring manager?

If the former, then it'll shake out in the wash.

If the latter, then be honest with them, but in a constructive way.

If neither, and you're just an outside observer, then don't say anything and let management deal with it.

Given his position of power, what does he have to vent to you about?

So let me guess:  he's complaining that he's not getting enough respect or recognition for a title he gave to himself for a job he isn't doing.

Did I get that right?

What's your relationship to this situation? If you don't have any say in if he gets the role or not I'd just ignore it.

Had to report to someone like this

They somehow managed to gain leadership support despite HR complaints, bad numbers, etc.

In the end, the company went through an M&A, 80% of the SDR team laid off, useless sales manager moved into ops

0/10, no stars, do not recommend

Tell him to apply and talk to HR. Be a rock his tears of disappointment will crash against when he realized the truth.
