A bonus bonus

We've had some recent turnover on our sales team. It's a small group, with only 5 total sellers. Now, it's down to 3.

I've been having an absolute killer year and hit my annual quota in June. We're on pace to hit our team goal, but only because I've been producing enough to cover the quotas of both people who are leaving.

Our comp plan doesn't include any accelerators, but everyone has an individual and team bonus worked into their comp plan.

Is it reasonable to ask that if I can cover the two departing people's full quota and help us achieve the overall team goal, I should be eligible for their bonuses too?

The bonuses are already budgeted. Right? Why not pay it out to me if I hit their goal?

Sales leaders... what would you say if your top producer approached you asking to be paid a bonus bonus for covering your ass and hitting the team sales goal when the team is short-staffed?

hell yeah it is - but the likelihood they will give that to you is low. if that company relies on bonus's vs accelerators they are probably cheap asf and that's why the other 2 probably left. - congrats on killing it. Can never hurt to ask your manny!

I would totally ask for it. Why not, you are making their life better too. only right they throw you a bone. Now, one thing I would be cautious of, is if they use that to then raise your quota to something stupid for next year.

Most definitely! Worth the ask anywayโ€”literally nothing to lose and everything to gain

I say go for it. Shows you're hungry.

You might get it, you might not, but you won't be any worse off and it'll get you noticed.

Worth the ask.

Question though, is it possible youโ€™re doing so well BECAUSE they left? In other words, who is covering their territories? If you (even if only 1/3 of it), managementโ€™s response might be that youโ€™ve already benefited.

Sales is one of the only jobs where fewer people on your team is a benefit.

I would absolutely ask for some type of bonus, accelerator, etc. If the team is still able to hit their goal while down 2 people, and you were the number one guy leading that charge, you totally deserve some extra cash.

Will the company see it that way and be willing to give you anything though? Eh, I wouldn't hold your breath. hell yes you should ask for it though.

If I was your manager I would definitely fight for it for you, but it depends on your managerโ€™s willingness to have your back and even then he might not get approval.

I would definitely ask! With them departing and you just killing it, sounds like a great time to ask for additional base/equity/title. Do you have a good relationship w/ leadership?

Usually you get equity after a certain point. But accelerators are always thrown in there
