From my experience, they sometimes can help with onboarding but ultimately are not needed. Most of the companies I've worked for have not had CS teams.

what kind of product? i've seen CS be heavily used for things like leadIQ, zoominfo, chorus, etc. Sales tools.

Based on the answers here it must be very company dependant regarding how you feel about this. 

At mine, they are absolutely critical for onboarding and do their part to help with renewals. Hell, they are a big part of why people sign on us for the rate they do.

I like my CS team personally, but really think it depends on how complex your product is. If you're selling something super easy to use having a CS team is a waste, but if you have a complex product with a long onboarding process (like my company) CS can be a major resource!

Cold calling will never die in a complex selling environment... and in my humble opinion is King for outbound prospecting. What does the War Room think? Have you found more productive/efficient ways to start relationships? Asking for a friend 😅
