A few things to complain about

Just wanted to feel better and compain about few things things that are my pet peeves while working in tech/software development as SDR & AE - AND hear from you whether you have same exp or am I just nuts ;) The worst IMHO:

  • shitty managers who either pretend to give you freedom& responsibility which ends up jumping in the last moment to micromanage you OR micromanage you from the beginning so you can't even take a piss without their knowledge
  • people who pretend to be interested/focused on closing the deal but don't give a shit about it because it gives them more workload. Hence, you work your ass off for 8-12mths to close the deal and then they say that it's either a bad client, risky project or some other shitty excuse. I'm talking here about legal staff especially.
  • people who never sold anything but say/think that sales is easy also rather not for them AKA (if they wanted to do it, they'd do it well but don't want to)

What would you add?

Firstly, let it all out.

But with all of these just communicate.

Engage the manager on how you want to be managed - if they don't engage then yep that sucks but work around it. They'll have things they care about, do those things and the harassment will be less.

I doubt legal is trying to torpedo your deals, but it sounds like you don't have enough internal buy in on your ops. Brief them early and ensure the higher-ups want it to close. This is sales, people like money, so show them why your deal is safe money.

Lastly, fuck those guys, engage them on what they're talking about and they typically can't back it up.

Keep your head up.

I feel you, have been through but I I have met mixed of good and bad, and how we connect with good ones and leverage their help has helped me a lot.

If you're unhappy about something, voice it out because ultimately one wouldn't know how you like being managed unless you tell them (may be the method they have been using has helped and hence they follow the same style)

Thanks for that! I dunno if I'm the freak who puts 120% into all the effort and thus I'm so (BRAG) good at it; I'm considered as client advocate in my company and I think that's why clients trust me. On the flip side, when you're putting your heart at stake and it's easy to be pissed off by people who don't care enough. Maybe I'm lacking perspective.. ehm ehm.. :D

When it comes to micromanaging - it's the worst when someone explicitly says they don't micromanage and then end up doing it anyways. I've found just straight up addressing them. The hard part is finding a way to do it respectfully. "Hey boss, do you have a minute? I'm a bit confused because..."

I feel like the end of every one-on-one/team meeting ends with "do you have anything for me?" and its awkward silence until the call ends. The opportunity to speak up is there... use it. They'll respect you.

My god, all of these are so annoying hahahaha

I'll add:

People who step on your territory and then claim it's a "personal connection" because they are randomly connected on LinkedIn and messaged the person one time.
