A rant about salespeople on LinkedIn

Guess what? That outbound strategy you’ve been having success with and decided to post about on LinkedIn to help “build your personal brand” is now going to be used by more people… and in turn, diminish its effectiveness because it’s no longer unique and novel.


Here’s a thought - stop plastering successful outbound strategies all over LinkedIn for validation and approval from people you don’t know.


If you find something that works and you’re having success with it, keep it to yourself or amongst friends in the industry.


Revealing the ace up your sleeve for a couple of likes isn’t going to get you anywhere.

Exactly, the entire reason why unique openers are effective is because they help to cut through the noise. When everyone is doing it, you're now part of the crowd.

Agreed! And now everyone uses that stupid "Can I have 27 seconds?" line. Overheard my boss get a call where someone said that and it was utterly cringe. Be confident, don't diminish what you are doing by making a stupid joke. If you are good, they'll give you that time. If you aren't, well I guess keep asking for their time and see how far it gets you.

IMO the 27 seconds line is great if you want the call to last 27 seconds… It’s a long shot and you’re effectively throwing shit at the wall and hoping some of it sticks. The best openers I’ve heard don’t ask for time, they command it by delivering value and personalised insight from the start. If there’s no personalisation, there’s no point.
