Acceptable calendar blocks to put while interviewing, suggestions?

I've been on the interview train for about 1.5 months now and I'm almost out of ideas for things to put on my calendar to block for other calls during work hours.

I've burned through the classics:

  • Dr. Appt
  • Vet
  • Dentist
  • Taking car to the shop
  • Attending a virtual conference

Any others that the WR has up their sleeve??

Literally anything -- I just put "busy". Don't overthink it, it's doubtful people are inspecting your calendar.

Agreed. If you're able to mark it as private that should work too - I see people with things blocked off as private all the time and it doesn't raise any suspicions.

Ask the recruiter to arrange the interview over your lunch time, they should be able to accommodate. "Lunch" on your calendar won't raise suspicions at all, just put it there every day. If anyone asked why you block it off at the same time every day say you do a workout class at that time.

Alternatively you could put “bury hooker” or “recover from meth binge” to make ppl too creeped out to ask questions.

I just put “block” or “prospecting” and/or just make it a blank+private block

Technically "prospecting" isn't lying either.

"Demo review" is a good one -- shows you're taking time to review your calls and see where you can improve...and your boss will think you're still a super star.

“[Target Account] Prospecting Block - DO NOT BOOK!” both frees up the time AND makes you look good!

Marking "busy" is the best suggestion. But putting smart ass stuff is fun. You can also put "interview for new job" and respond in a super sarcastic tone whenever someone asks about it. I pull that kind of shit all the time.

If you ever see on my calendar "Quick Chat with Jonathan" and you're in my confidence, there is no Jonathan, and we have nothing to talk about for an hour

Great advice.  Yeah, won't raise any interest.

Whenever I have personal shit I need to take care of during the work day I just put "Personal block" or "TIME BLOCKED"

Demo prep, CRM clean up, prospecting time all work if you don't want to get too creative, which I'd honestly be tempted to do and see who's paying attention.

If leadership is spending enough time in your calendar to try to decipher your code leaving is the correct approach and who cares what they think.

"Things & Stuff" is my go to. I like to keep it specific so the manny knows how hard you're working 🤣

I make it look like any other meeting or deals I’m working on. “Follow up with ACME” or “AMCE prep” I don’t let people book on my calendar without asking so people respect the space.

Just put "prospecting" or "researching new accounts" or "focus time". These are repeatable and indicate that you are blocking time to focus on the critical tasks of your job.

I add the initials and either "Call" or "Meeting." So if a call was with Jon Doe, then "Call - JD" and you can go from there.

The key is to delete them a day after. So it looks more clean. Replace it with “call block” and shit like that

‘Personal appointment’ can’t go wrong. Doubtful people are actually looking at everything you’re doing though.

Mentor meetings happen regularly

Webinar (put harder to coordinate)

Searching for a new appt so have virtual calls with agent (or buying a new home is a new builder call)

Networking event like Therefore (also good to find new jobs)

Good luck with the hunt

Thanks...figuring you know that "firing off a letter to Congress" is a euphemism.  That's why we flush twice...because Washington is so far away.

Lol I've put fake "busy" blocks on my calendar to fuck with my boss before.

But don't overthink it, people are too self-absorbed to remember your calendar.

In the holiday spirit, try:

"wallow in self-pity"
"stare into the abyss"
"solve world hunger - tell NO ONE"
"jazzercize"
"dinner with me (I can't cancel that again)"
"wrestle with my self-loathing"
