A few years back, I joined an improv acting group. I feel there are so many benefits to this:
1.) Breaking comfort zones
2.) Public speaking skills
3.) Improvising, thinking of solutions on your feet.
I also have enjoyed public speaking, taking Toast Masters, but have been on stages before doing music and theatrical performances.
Toast masters is one thing, but I feel improv acting is another animal. With Toast Masters, you're memorizing scripts, with improv the world is a very flexible place. I would say most adults are use to the habit of, "keeping a serious face, work work work, conceptualizing the world as 'black and white'," but with improv, you go back to having a child like mind, getting super creative and thinking of things most (adults) wouldn't see imaginable.
I can say the one thing that all of these have in common is the ability to speak in front of people, and through repetition confidence builds.
Has anyone done improv or theater acting, played music in front of a live audience, or done Toast Masters/Public Speeches? Can anyone vouche for this?
