Lift heavy things regularly, listen to Future and even if you have no idea what you’re doing, radiate the confidence of Jake Paul promoting a rigged boxing match.

Invest in a nice whisky to keep at your desk. Get good headphones to block out your desk mate.

And don’t just say “sales”. You could be selling cars, SaaS, furniture, houses or your mom. All require different strategies and skill sets.

Two pieces of advice:

1) Always ask for help. Show initiative to find things out for yourself but don't struggle on your own unnecessarily. People won't judge you if you're being methodical during your onboarding and asking good questions.

2) Bring something edible i.e. cookies, candy etc. from wherever you're from on your first day - send a note around to your team members that you've brought them in, they're on your desk and that you'd love to meet/chat with anybody who fancies one.

You make a nice first impression and gain the opportunity to get to know new colleagues one-on-one.

Then book follow-ups with the ones who are relevant/valuable and learn from them about your new product, its value prop and their advice for you on starting the role in that specific company. Prioritise other reps (AE & SDR) who've been there and been successful, key SEs etc.

Do this outside of any mandatory, internally developed training. It will be more valuable to you longer term.

Try to be comfortable by being prepared for everything. Have an extra shirt. Have good headphones etc.

try to make friends with locals ASAP. That way your weekends will be beter and you have people that can help you out if you do not know how to solve a local issue.

If it is a complex product. Find subject matter experts in product or engineering. Make friends. Make them fast. You will need to ask a ton of questions. Its like banking. Deposits first, then debits. Good luck.
