Advice: Speaking to recruiters without my company knowing

Yo,


Starting my first sales job after college (SDR about 9 months in) so looking for some advice as a relative newbie.


I'm really happy in my current role but recently I've been getting quite a few messages from recruiters on LinkedIn. Interested to see if if it's worth the switch but don't want my current company finding out.


Wondering if they are any tips as to avoid my manager/company finding out that I'm taking these calls and speaking with recruiters or if I'm just worrying over nothing?

Don't reply on company computer, don't use company email, and don't put any calendar invites they send on your work calendar. Just use blank calendar blocks and set them to private.ย 

I take recruiting calls all the time if it sounds like an interesting role.ย

Yeah no worries. Make sure if they want you to join a zoom/webex/google meet etc you do so from your personal device as well.

If you're WFH it's even easier, but pretty much everything BigMeech said about making sure you don't have it on company computers is the key. Good to have a back up plan, and best-case scenario if you get a gig you can leverage it for a raise

You're worrying over nothing. I message with recruiters in my sales nav account, take interviews on my work laptop, even slack with coworkers about offers and companies. Maybe I'm playing with fire but your company has better things to do than snoop on SDRs.

the worry is warranted, but unless they're micro-managing you, you should be fine to have initial conversations

Man, if you're really happy, that's pretty rare right out of school. I would recommend staying and advancing your career. You should always dip your toe in the water to see what's out there but it needs to be paradise minted paying in gold to leave 9 months in as a happy SDR.

But yeah, you can be cautious when interviewing. But it also doesn't matter in 99% of cases.

As a leader, I quite enjoyed having people that other companies want.ย  I invited all my directs to have conversations with me as they received recruitment solicitations.ย  I was always honestly helpful to them as to what I felt the opportunity was.ย  The expectation is that if I hire well, I've hired someone desirable to other companies.ย  As part of my care for my people, I'd help them think through pros and cons of companies.ย  All my people stayed as long as I did.ย  It was an interesting learning...

just keep things private, if they find out, just be honest, your company probably wants to keep you so tell them why you are thinking about leaving
