Try and stray away from what you'd perceive as a classic 'cliche sales approach. People want honesty and humour, in my opinion anyway. E.g. If you ring a company and they give you different options to type into the phone to reach a department but you aren't sure just say 'really sorry, I wasn't entirely sure which button to press so just panicked and pressed 4' with a laugh obviously. I do things like this regularly on a cold call.
Also, I personally find from a pure cold call simply saying 'Just to let you know I'm not looking to buy anything, it's more of a business enquiry'. A little bit of humour and honesty goes a long way. Takes time though.

Take it one call at a time and try to be conversational. If whatever you sell requires a pitch....get that sh*t tight. No call is going to be perfect but try to take notes on what has worked, and what hasn't. And realize that even the best cold callers don't hit 100% of the time.

Best of like on the new job! I would say just call a lot of people so that you can get more comfortable on the phones and used to talking.
