AE and leave vs. Leave and start over?

I really like my company and team but recently I've been losing faith in the leadership team because they're inconsistent among themselves. Everyone in leadership had a different goal, brand idea, pitch and opinion on where to focus.

Idk if this is normal at startups (Series A to B). I thought I'd get promoted to AE, work for a few months to get some results on my resume and leave cos I know I'd get paid more somewhere else.

Alternatively, I've been thinking about another company as a BDR where I would definitely get paid more and then promote to AE. I don't mind being an SDR again but I'd love it if I didn't have to.

Thoughts?

You could look at other companies to see what’s out there. When do you expect to be promoted to AE?

You don’t mention how much time you have in your current position, if it’s your first position in sales, etc.

Start ups are a high risk/high reward situation. You’re dealing with founder egos, a new company no one has heard of, questionable company viability, etc. so anything can happen.

Start interviewing, if you prefer a role as an AE I would go for it

Very normal for this to be happening, especially in a company at that early of a stage. In my opinion there's a lot of uncertainty in the job/macro market right now and it's not worth making lateral moves that you're unsure about. I would say the best path is to have a honest discussion about with your manager about how realistic a promotion is and what you need to do to get there, then go execute on it

so this is VERY normal for a series A /B to not have clarity on the vision or direction they are going. you may just have to be ok with that. its part of being in a start up.

are you currently an AE or SDR?

yeah try to ride the wave. if it NEVER gets clear then there is a problem but for the most part going through different iterations of the vision is really common

I’ve seen this before. Where the CEO isn’t able to bring their direct reports on the same page.
