AE Job Requirement

I saw on Linkedin that one of my previous coworkers is looking for an AE at a Series A tech company. They posted, "has been at one company for at least 3 years (current or past)."

This isn't the first time I've heard of this type of requirement, but I'm curious what others think of it.

On one hand, they are looking for commitment and achievement. However, I interpret it as *potentially* someone who will put up with being mistreated for years.

I do find this strange for a series A company to be reaching for, given the risk. Idk. What do you guys think? Red flag or nah?

Very many deep thoughts about Series A companies around here. This one in particular doesn't sound like one I'd want to be a part of. ๐Ÿค”

I could see that being a silent criterion for a hiring manager, but I'm surprised to hear that it was listed.

Edit: It's also a stupid one.

This just seems weird. I mean, they are being selective, that's for sure. But why 3 years?

Thatโ€™s a stupid requirement, as it says absolutely nothing about the reps competencies.

seems like a weird flexโ€ฆ theyโ€™re basically asking you to prove that pandemics donโ€™t effect you and that you have been one of the few to not get laid off or jump sinking ships in the last 3 years. good luck dude.

In my opinion, requirements are usually just "wants" and anything can be argued if they will give you the opportunity to interview.

I agree, for a series A to want 3 year loyal employees is somewhat ironic and funny.

They're probably making sure that they hire an AE who doesn't need a lot of enablement that they aren't able to provide. The number of years seems fairly arbitrary, but that's what I think they're looking for.

For an AE how much experience are they asking for? 3 years at one place somewhat early in your career can be hard

We need a Master Thread for Series A now.

@antiASKHOLE: kindly approve.

Definitely reaching, the average tenure of AEs is significantly below 3 years, especially early on in your career. Anyone who is a top performer is always looking for new opportunities and is likely to stay less at bad companies.

Seems like an odd request but assume they are looking for someone that possibly shows commitment and can sustain success over multiple years and not just a one hit wonder.

Still dumb request for a Series A but to each their own.

hilarious request, most series A's will fire a rep in 3 months if they don't hit 50% of their quota during HR onboarding.

i dont think this would be a red flag. with everyone jumping ship all the time i can understand why companies would want that.

If they said I would have to sign a 3 year contract.....THAT would be a red flag.

I've seen that before but seems dumb to eliminate potentially awesome candidates for something they have no context on

Giving the benefit of the doubt for free here. Maybe they're just looking for someone who knows how to be self-sustaining. They might not have the management experience to lead the AE.

That said, I don't think it's the right call.

We want to know you won't jump a sinking ship, because you will be drowning from day 1. LOL
