AE vs SDR

Looking for my first full time sales role out of college, been in commercial insurance sales for about two years now. I'm looking at either an account executive role with an insurance AMS company or an SDR role with a banking software company. Both have a similar base and OTE. Those of you who have done both, does one seem like a better fit? I know SDR roles usually develop into AE, but I'm not sure if foregoing this step is a great call.

I would go the AE route because you can move into another vertical much easier. It's a lot harder to get an AE job from a SDR role and usually requires putting in 12-24 months as a SDR to get promoted internally to an AE.

Were you selling part-time in college?

And honestly, if you don't have a preference on role type, go for what will give you the most money in the long run.

I have been part-time throughout college, I feel it’s hard to say which could be more profitable in the long term because both are starting out with similar salaries

The best AEs were SDRs at one point. You really need to learn how to cut teeth with different tech stacks and prospecting before going after accounts. An AE role that pays the same as an SDR role is a shit job masquerading as an AE.

AE if you have the opportunity to move into an AE role.

This way you can more easily move into another AE role somewhere else after some experience.

Just go into a broker position with commercial insurance, close accounts and watch that passive income just start flying!!
