"I currently have another offer on the table and need to give them an answer by x date, is it possible you can let me know if I'll be getting an offer from you by then?"

Has this strategy worked for you in the past? This is my second AE job, first one was an internal promotion, so I'm kind of on a limb here

I haven't had to use it myself, but it's a pretty well used and recognized strategy. If the employer wants you, they'll work with you on your timeline. They know that top candidates have multiple options so it shouldn't come as a surprise.ย

I've used this strategy that @funcoupons is talking about in the past and it works. Remember, the interview process is a two-way street. If they know they're going to extend an offer, they will most likely be flexible with any asks you have regarding decision dates, etc.ย

I've also used this strategy. Helped move things along faster. People get busy. They forget. Hiring a new employee tends to be low on their priority list.ย
However, I only use it as a last resort.ย

Agreed to the points below; maybe even add in 'hey x company is my first choice but I have other offers on the table, I'd welcome feedback from you as to if you'd like to move forward with an offer by x date."

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
I always just tell people during the process what the deal is. I've never had it be a problem.

Honesty upfront throughout the process - "I have X other opportunities on the go", "I stack rank them by preference in order A,B,C, etc". If they're decent, the recruiter wants the feedback and to place/close their deal as much as you do. If they're slow/bad at feedback, find a new agency or recruiter.ย
