(ahem) 180% of quota on the quarter - PAY ME

Insane. I did a whole quarter's quota in June alone. Lined up for the single best paycheque of my life

Ok company - prove you're good to your word. I hate that there is a tingle of spider sense around this, but I'm cautiously optimistic all will be good and daddy gets paid

I'll update this when the cash is in hand

What do you think/know that you did to hit such high sales? Was there something specifically that worked well for you?

Multiple points of contact into one prospect. Came at things from multiple angles. Reached out regularly with value rather than just "have you thought about it?" Huge win was showing the new Marvel Dr. strange movie on opening day, full theatre of clients and prospects, the clients did all the selling for me before the movie started.

One of the guys in finance is a real dick-cheese and always scrutinizes every deal. I've heard the dreaded phrase "house account" starting to float around, and that's not cool.

A "house account" is when a customer has been a customer for several years, so a company starts to think that THEY "own" the relationship and thus it isn't an account that pays commissions anymore.

Is this just a Canadian thing?

Call the account whatever you want, if no commission is paid on it then I sure as shit ain't maintaining that relationship.

They need to put some CSR on it or pay comp. Maybe pay a lower rate than new business but still gotta get something for your troubles.

Agreed, I understand and support a tiered comp model where new business earns more than an existing account, especially if it is a legacy account you have inherited however its a fine balance and no ways does a company "own" that relationship if it is an individual maintaining it.

Though I will say from several past experiences, if your company is both professional and competent and has excellent customer service, 99% of sales guys can leave and that account will stay with the company and the individual is easily replaced in that relationship. I know you all hate to hear it but its true.

100% true, but good sales professionals can also squeeze more out of legacy accounts with good farming. As long as you're making 3x what you cost the company then they should be happy.

Comp plan is complicated. It was written by a sales guy and it's designed for max payout to rock stars and max pain for failing, but the verbiage is tricky and he's not a wordsmith. I think any fuckery may be over the value of each deal rather than the % of quota achieved

Either way if the language is there and you have it then itโ€™s a very bad idea as an employer to try to screw with what is signed as it will be a nightmare legally(which both parties usually would like to avoid). If you have done well there and they want to keep you happy itโ€™s in their best interest to pay what is rightfully owed.

Just due to the size. I know there is one jerk in finance who always pushes back on paying sales (great guy for all other company costs).

Congrats! You had a remarkable month!

Best to assume the best with your company until they behave poorly. I've led teams in many stages of growth and I've never seen management punish high performers.

My question to you is, how are you going to spend that commission?

Do yourself a favor and download your comp plan, payment plan (how/when everything is paid out), and other supporting documentation and save it on your personal GDrive.

I had closed the largest new logo in company history at the startup I was at and they dragged their feet for 3 months and didnโ€™t pay me saying โ€œweโ€™re working on itโ€. Of course that made me put in zero effort (was already at goal, fuck them) and they ended up firing me before they had to pay. Stupid fucks didnโ€™t know I was going to give my two weeks that day anyways as I had a much better role lined up so in a way the severance made up for part, but still was owed $15k

This is where you will see how good (or bad) management is. If it's bad then your quota may be about to grow exponentially and you may become the yardstick that they use to beat your colleagues with. Hopefully management is good rather than bad.

Story Update:

So they have removed the interprovincial boundaries for sales territories now. (Provinces are the Canadian version of States). So now my territory is larger, but others can play in my sandbox. I think it's coincidental, but surprising

Story Update 2:

Rather than a commission report, I got a listing of all my sales from the month, no commission calculation yet. That's odd. 2 of my deals were missing off the list but looks like an understandable Salesforce error. No word yet on their initial calculation

UPDATE: First - this community is INCREDIBLE. Thank you to everyone who tuned in, chimed in, and had great advice. Most of the ideas I had thought of, but it was VERY reassuring to hear my own thoughts spoken by someone else, it let me know I was on the right path. You all rock and I'm at your service to help any of you.

We had a big meeting where we went over the sales in a more granular case-by-case basis, which is unusual. That said, my game is tight my SFDC was clean and the sales were self evident, so we passed that sniff test.

The wanker in Finance actually quit this month (I think when a non-performer hits a culture of elites, they find their way out before they get fired) so I actually dealt with the CFO on this stuff, it was nice not to have to run it up the chain.

We got agreement that the number was valid, and I got that in writing and it's EXPECTED to be on the paycheque Friday, I'll get my paystub Thursday and know for sure.

I talked to HR, because I'm starting to get worried that for my price, they'll start questioning if they could hire 3 new young guys for the price of me, she reassured me that's not in their mindset and they happy.

So hopefully the last update will be Thursday when we see just how much the Canadian Government takes out of my @$$ in taxes.

What major actions would you take on month ends and quarter ends to hit your quota and also increasing the logos of yours from your pipeline?

Question

6

Hitting annual in June, quota raised, raise in salary too?

Advice
6
16

FEELINGS- Your commission is annual (ARR) but the customer paid monthly (MRR) and if there is a churn in the next few months, the company will deduct by increasing your quota and taking the equivalent amount $$ from your quota in the next month.
