Being hung up on is something you and I are facing almost on a daily basis,so I gave it a shot and asked SGPT to see the best way to deal with that scenario, and it gave an answer that didn't impress me that much ,especially for one of the latest points that advised to"Call them back and continue the conversation as if nothing happened".
Let's have a Look.
Based on what Bravado members have mentioned, if a prospect hangs up on you during a call, there are several options:
- Call them back and apologize saying your call got disconnected and start right back up…they may get caught off guard and not want to say they hung up on you and allow you to finish…or they are a sociopath and say nope I hung up on you and hang up again.
- I objection handle at least twice before I'll let the prospect off the hook (unless the first objection is 100% legit.) Hanging up is the first objection, so I will call them back or at least send them a message. And hey, lines do legitimately disconnect sometimes so it would be a shame if I gave up after the first hang up and the prospect was actually interested.I do not get straight hung up on often at all though and if this is happening to a rep on their regular they need to examine their prospecting/cold calling approach.
- If you're not allowed to hang up on anyone, just stop talking until they do, when they are being hostile.
- Try to see how fast you can get hung up on to desensitize yourself to rejection. In the end, there is like a one in a billion chance you will ever actually see any of these people that hang up in real life, and a one in a trillion chance they remember the call and somehow recognize you.
- If a prospect says "no, I hung up on you!" you could ask "why?" and try to continue the conversation.
- Call them back and continue the conversation as if nothing happened. Some reps will even call multiple times if the prospect keeps hanging up.
- Alternatively, if the prospect doesn't answer after three rings, hang up and call back. There's a higher chance of getting someone on the phone.
