down voters are marketing spies
Lack of punctuation in your reply could make it sound blunt.

Next time try a better qualifier.

"That's great you have an in house team working on the solution, while you've got my focus, can you do me a favor and put me in touch with the lead? I want to see if there is any overlap in what we provide and what their roadmap looks like."

Overreaction to your response. Others have given their opinion on small changes.

Sorry that happened, but depending on what you sell, you may have dodged a bullet by not having to work with this person.

They def overreacting... but also you should honestly focus on formulating grammatically correct and succinct response to prospects.

Gonna need to see the full interaction to judge anything. Llike others said, punctuation in your reply could trigger some people, but that alone was not enough to set them off.

Brush it off and move on to the next one.

We are internally looking for a solution can mean 2 things:

#1: Their team (internal team) is looking for a tool you were trying to sell
#2: Their team is looking for a solution internally (in-house), and not through an external vendor

In both cases, your response could've been articulated better. First time I read, it sounded a bit interrogative to me. Next time I read, it didn't.

But the prospect ain't gonna read it twice.Maybe it could've been something on these lines:

"I understand your in-house team is providing all support you need currently. Would you still want to see how we could solve X problem for you? If you'd still want an internal solution, we'd respect your decision"

Just someone pissed about you giving it one more shot after the rejection.

Your response could have been better though. It wasn't rude by any stretch of the imagination but you're basically just asking the guy to try to sell your solution to himself.

Avoid the "just take a look and see" approach. That dog don't hunt.

i mean, this person is having a bad day.

Like there is no reason your response should warrant THEIR response.

you could have changed some punctuation a little bit and add a few works. "thanks for letting me know. Would you like to look around your self, or is there something specific I can help you understand?" would probably be a better response.

but I dont think what you said is THAT bad.

The only thing I can see would be the lack of acknowledgement with their objection. Especially through text, you need to address their objection before you chuck a spear at them.

sounds like they're either having a bad day and took it out on you, or they're just an ass hole. Either way, I would just drop it and move on. Plenty of fish in the sea. Not worth the time and effort to try and smooth it over.

It was sorta rude. I would have said something like "I totally appreciate that you are looking internally for a solution. In fact, I often hear others I work with say that they are looking internally. Typically they are looking internally for a couple of reasons. First, they think that they can deploy internal resources to save money. Second, they think that they can build more customized software. Does either of these situations apply here? YES/NO depending on what they say, you can dig in to find a pain point to then qualify. If they, don't fit your value prop, then you can move on.

Perfect example of the downfalls of text/email. Communication is based on intent of sender. Intent is very hard to understand under best considerations and when you remove some of our senses it becomes even more difficult. Pick up the phone and win this one!

Something else is going on here that you're not privy to.

If the prospect is willing to walk away from evaluation of your service/product off the back of a single, innocuous text exchange, I'd argue they weren't that interested in the first place and wanted an easy way to let you down. It's a dick move and not your fault, but it happens and, IMO, you dodged a bullet as they'd prob be a nightmare to work with.

You need to do a better job of acknowledging and pivoting. Always bring up the big picture (engineering/product bandwidth, road map commitments, etc.) and network to more.

Honestly, If you want to turn this around, reach out to their boss and tell him "jimmy" (or whatever this persons name was) had reached out and was inquiring about your solution that helps companies "bla bla bla" and you were hoping to get some time on his/her/their calendar to discuss his requirements for this initiative. Then propose a couple times for the next few days/week.

Without having seen your initial message to this person, it appears they may just be effing with you. But there's not reason why you can't use that, to turn this into a potential real opp.

The downfall with text based responses is that you cant get a feel for someone's demeanor. my one critique would be in your first sentence.

"Thank you for letting me know but do you just want to look into what we have"

This is how I would have responded. Note the "multiple" breaks and punctuation.......

I appreciate you letting me know. We've helped other companies save time/money through our solution in comparison to working internally.

Do you have some time to go over some of your goals later this week? I believe we'd be able to assist.

Thank you!
