And the "Worst Manager of the Year" award goes to....(drumroll)

Alright - here's how it works. You put in the top three reasons (stories are good...) as to why your current manager should be nominated.

Whoever receives the most upvotes by the end of September, I will figure out a way to get a prize of some sort to you. May the worst manager win!

I'll start:

Three quick examples and reasons why he should be nominated for the award. One thing to note is that our team is experienced enterprise sellers...

1) Killing my deals! A little too "over-helpful" - to the point where prospects are confused, unsure who to go to, emails to prospects that are filled with PARAGRAPHS, and more. He makes it so complicated for buyers to buy.

2) Sat down with me the other day, pulled up my calendar and a teammates calendar side by side and said, "why aren't you as busy as (name)?"....Bro, I'm a top seller / performer, I do my work, I DO NOT need to put stuff on my calendar to appear busy, I don't have time for that. To which he responded, "well let's set aside some time to discuss time management best practices." Literally, can't make this stuff up.

3) Everything has to be a call or a zoom...email doesn't fly.

Let's hear it from you now!

1) He is a LinkedIn Clout Chaser. ๐Ÿคฎ
2) He repeats what other people say in meetings moments after they've just said it to ensure he has the last word.
3) He "delegates", which actually means he doesn't ever do the shitty parts of his job. He makes things sound SUPER important and gives them to someone else as a "great opportunity to learn and show off your skills".

My boss (company owner) gets drunk at company functions and tells people theyโ€™re no good at their job and how amazing he is (has happened to 100% of the women I work with) then will send apology text messages the next day that are completely disingenuous. My boss showed up to attend a meeting with me so drunk he offended the prospect to a point that prospect called me afterwards to tell me how sorry he is that I have to work in that environment.

He- โ€œsorry i canโ€™t tell you what to do i can only show you so invite me to your meetingsโ€. Then talks for 20 minutes about himself which he thinks prospects care about then tells me see you just need to have some fun with it. Then asks why the prosecta goes dark, they agreed to next steps? Always delegats everything except for meetings with his leadership. Always on vacation and most importantly his schedule is what everyone in the world revolves aroundโ€ฆ prospect canโ€™t meet when he has time since he wants to micromanage everything too bad, go find more prosoects. This is why it takes 38 touches for our company to set 1st meetings.

1.) she walked around with a notepad to note if you had client calls lined up or notย
2.) would go into a meeting with her manager come out with a ghost face from getting told what to do and repeat verbatim the bs he told her to do
3.) would tell us to do something and then when it didnโ€™t work would ask why it didnโ€™t work since it must not be her.

1. shows up 3-minutes to 10-minutes late to EVERY zoom meeting. Sometimes doesn't show at all and joins an internal meeting instead with a text "you can handle this discussion alone, no?"

2. Will talk about specific things during the meeting I ask to refrain from on internal prep calls (talking pricing/timing with a decision maker NOT on the call, pressuring team on timing when I clearly explain their purchase process/timing beforehand).

3. Forcing an AE to reach out to executive leadership for contract/deployment requests - I get immediately rejected and it becomes my fault for it getting rejected. All prev managers I've had will go to battle on my behalf to get approvals on changes/needs from exec leadership.

Oh man...definitely back when I was working in the mortgage biz. Short man, large Versace shirts, daily LONG and in CAPS motivational emails about "owning the day." Huge dramatic chest bumps with everyone on the floor within 20 feet of him. ZERO actual help with getting a deal done when you needed it though.

My "Boss of the Year" handled a VIP client demo of mine while I was on vacation. Upon my return I hear my client's executive team was less than impressed & he is now trying to salvage the relationship internally.ย

Plenty of bad bosses out there, i like mine today though he does repeat everything i present to him like his idea, but we are making money and he gives me credit where its due sometimes. However i have had similar managers in this thread and vowed to never be one of them and have been in sales management 5 years now and live up to that vow!ย

My Boss:
1) Doesnt understand my product technically
2) Doesnt understand the sales motion
3) Has told us he just needs to keep his job til retirement.

Great boss when you want someone to help you sell more!

I have amazing managers now, thank God! However, I did have a manager that rode with me when I was in Pharma Sales. I was 7 months pregnant and really not feeling well during my sales calls. At the end of the day, he got in my car and told me that I was the lowest rep on the totem pole, that I sucked at my job and that I would be on a PIP soon. I had a total breakdown and my physician put me on bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy so he legally couldn't touch me. While I was out on maternity leave, he got fired for sexually harrassing another rep. Last I heard, he was selling cars at a used car lot.....lol. Moral of story - don't fuck with pregnant sales reps! AND Karma is just the best damn thing!!!!!

Had a director that was pretty terrible.ย

In the interview he sold the job very well, and said the other guys on the team were selling every week, and rolling in inbounds. The first thing i was told when i started was to get out asap, as none of the 6 other guys had sold anything for 6 months (since the teams was started).ย

Later we found a note showing 2 teams with "current" and a number matching the number of team members, and "June 1st" showing two less people. On May 31st, 4 people were fired. The day before, one of them had asked whether to extend his apartment lease for one year, and was told "yeah, you should do that, nobody is getting fired".ย

In the interview, he said "no micromanaging", he then ended up micromanaging. "No callcenter", he then put up screens to show number of calls stats.ย

Another guy was told on his first day "I don't want you here", as he had been hired by a mid-level manager, not the director.ย

Our market was narrowed from SMB to only small business.ย

I requested to visit the prospect on a potential 100k deal, was rejected, and had to take PTO to meet them on site.ย

These are just examples, but they're not even close to conveying how much of an a**hole this guy is in general.ย

Out of the 4 deals losed by the team over a year, 3 were clawed back. By now everybody has left the team.ย
