Annual Review: Base Pay Increase?

Hey everyone!

qq: AE at SaaS startup, fully remote, hits 100% of quota first year at the company with 4-6 YOE. What sort of base pay increase should you be requesting on the annual review, if any?

**stock option, bonuses and comp accelerators off the table**

Thanks for the help!

Depends on where you are currently at. If you are hitting quota, I think a reasonable request is 7-9% and negotiate from there. I usually request higher base salary and commission at the same time, depending on the commission structure. Hopefully you get the raise you're looking for!

6-8% is pretty standard. Smack that bad boy on your Salary of 50/50 on mix of comp and base.ย

I asked for 10% and got 5%. The start was 60k and I was looking for 70k? Does 60K seem low or are my expectations unrealistic?ย

depends where you're located. In California it's on the lower end but not unreasonable - 75k is what I would say is fair given your experience and track record. First counter offer doesn't necessarily mean it's what you have to accept.ย

Depends on your seniority. In the enterprise space, 120-150 base is pretty common.ย

60k for a sr AE? Whatโ€™s your quota?ย

Normally Iโ€™d say 5-7% but I know a lot of companies who (for good or bad) are freezing or doing minimal pay increases due to the COVID factor. (Even in companies who werenโ€™t massively impacted)ย

Gotcha, thanks so much for the input. The base to start seemed low to me, but I felt maybe my expectations were unrealistic - start was 60k

When you hit your numbers, you are automatically in a "nothing ventured, nothing gained" territory.ย  There is never any harm in putting a use case together for why you deserve more $$, the more you put into it, the better chance you have to maximize your raise.ย ย

I would ask for ย a 10% and then negotiate to atleast 7-8%

Totally agree. CPI ranges but is about 3% so make sure it doesn't fall lower than that too.
