Any advice for someone starting a new sales job deep in the pandemic?

I recently left my first sales jobs for a new opportunity after 7 years at the company. I am looking forward to starting fresh with a new product but the impending doom of creating brand new relationships in the current pandemic environment is weighing on me.

Anyone has any tips on breaking into new accounts in the pandemic? Maybe you went through a similar situation, what worked and what didn't? I'll hang up and listen.

Lean on your team.

You don't get the same stop and chats you used to, internal successes are your best resource.

When it comes to client facing, of course this depends on what you're selling, but we've all gone through the this shift together.

A million Zoom calls a day - be empathetic and build rapport.

Start by finding prospects who have commonality with you in a personal way. Some examples:

- find prospects who went to your collegeย
- find prospects who have common hobbies as youย
- research prospects on social media to find things you can talk about that are relatable.

Ive had cold emails from reps who mention having their first child, playing chess/poker, living in SF, etc. Higher likelihood of response because it creates a sense of kinship and familiarity.

I really like this answer. I changed up some prospecting emails to focus on some of the things listed and had really good results.ย

While I use to target different geo's based on companies, I moved to finding my prospects that are closer and can bond over some frustrations locally, or having the college commonality.ย

I started a new role and managing 15 people fully remote. Lean on the team members, find the producers and see how they are doing it. Talk about the isolation and others (employees and prospects) will respond how they deal or dealt with it or pivoted opening a nice line of communication and defenses down from the start.ย

Honestly really well. The sales cycle on this product is long 1.5 to 2 years. Spent the last year building a client base and forming relationships. Melding with the team went smoothly and we are moving forwards. Of course it's hard to get my feet back under me in the current environment but the company understands and have given me a decent runway with lots of support.ย
