Any advice for the new guy?

New guy here - joined today. Why did I join? Some recent LI posts from Sahil were really engaging and thought provoking, so I started following and reading more content.

This morning I listened to the Not so Boring podcast and decided to join the Bravado community!

(btw, I really enjoyed the signup process, Bravado team. Well done!)

Fellow Bravadoians, What advice would you give a new guy on this platform?

I'm now going into my 8th year in software sales. Previously in financial services (insurance/investments) for almost six years.

Hey there!  Thanks for the question.  Anything related to the platform or sales related for this WFH dad of two small children!    Any good resources or posts I should check out?
I'm getting the sense the platform is like LI?

More reddit than LinkedIn. In fact we drag LinkedIn "influencers" regularly.

Welcome. #1 piece of advice - use the search bar before you post.

Thanks for the kind words and welcome!

3 main ways we try to help sellers in their careers: War Room, Portfolio, Jobs. (More coming soon!)

WR: you've found it. Welcome to the lions den of sales. Or as Ross calls it "the online sales floor". Ask questions, learn, debate, have a good time, don't take yourself too seriously, etc.

Portfolio: Track your closed deals and sales stats, build a public profile if you want to showcase your sales expertise, has a private mode called Performsnce Index where you get quarterly stats on how you stack up vs rest of sales community.

Jobs: pretty straightforward - find a sales job. Small wrinkle is we vet employers to ensure they are high quality places to work.

Welcome again!

Whoa! Wasn't expecting the Sahil to respond or even see my post.

Sounds great, Sahil!  I appreciate you taking a moment to respond.  I look forward to collaborating and contributing to the community and advancing my sales career by being part of Bravado!

Cheers

ah another former financial professional who found the light!

I was in financial services for 5 years before joining Saas.

Did you start out as an SDR in software? or did you find a company that valued your experience.

hey there!

I started out picking up the mail and shadowing everyone I could. It was founder driven, structure was not valued as much as it is today.  Learned on the fly how to do a little of everything.  From SDR activity to watching the founder demo and close deals.

Do you play tennis?

I played some in college and then coached for a number of years after school.

Seems like we shared similar paths!

Yes! It's a long story.  I love technology and I stayed involved in insurance.

I have a league match this weekend! Good luck this summer!
