Any AE's transition to Sales Ops?

I've always loved the operational side of sales - I spend hours messing around in SF making reports and what not and love the different tools and technologies. Always been curious what it would be like working in sales ops and what kind of quality of life you could expect.

Would love to hear some insight from anyone that's made this transition! Are you happier? How is your comp now? Your stress level?

Sounds like the advice you sought after yesterday, regarding if sales were right for you or not, pointed you down a different path.

I made the switch early in my career...and regretted it 10 months in and went right back to sales. A decade later I tend to take roles where I am still managing a sales team but also building the machine as the defacto ops professional.

I feel like if you don't have the experience of being the rep you'll lack the context and skillset to design solutions that serve sales teams in a way that makes them more productive and not weighted down by extra clicks/work.

I think any successful AE is continuously keeping a finger on the pulse of their personal "sales operations" when it comes to their process.

Personally I think it's a huge opportunity for AE's to lead from within the organization.

"Hey boss, was thinking about XYZ process. Why do we do it this way? What does it look like if we change THIS or THAT?"

All of our "sales ops" positions at the company I work for fall under responsibilities of our VP's.

Sorry for the rant haha

Process/workflow improvement ≠ sales ops.

Edit: Process/workflow improvement is only a portion of sales ops, and the function is not truly designed to help individual reps but to improve organizational efficiency and compliance.

I don't understand most of your responses--they're a lot like LinkedIn bots. It leads me to believe you're a clear commish farmer.

My experience from a non-commission role similar to sales ops
Comp = less
Happier = yes
Stress level = depends (better at times, worse at others)
