Any dedicated fishers in here?

Bit of a random one and im hoping someone on here can help. Any avid fishing fans here on the WR? Preferably someone familiar with fishing in the north and Canada for fish like Pike, Trout, Walleye etc.

Basically I want to get a gift for the DM at a recently converted big opportunity. The person is an avid fisher and I figured I could gift them a good quality fishing reel with a budget of maybe $100-150. Though again I don't even know if thats enough budget to get anything decent.

So if anyone has any fishing experience and could point me in a direction I would send lots of virtual appreciations.

I would opt for a gift card to a sporting good store. If he's really into fishing as you say, he's likely picky about the equipment he uses.

Ok thats an excellent suggestion, I totally should have thought that, thank you.

This is the answer, your budget/price range may be a bit low for a quality piece. But with a gift card they can get accessories/lures/flies etc.

I love fishing! However I'm not a good one to give advice. Mainly I like being outside and drinking beer.  🤷‍♀️

Let any fish who meets my gaze learn the true meaning of fear; for I am the harbinger of death. The bane of creatures sub-aqueous, my rod is true and unwavering as I cast into the aquatic abyss. A man, scorned by this uncaring Earth, finds solace in the sea. My only friend, the worm upon my hook. Wriggling, writhing, struggling to surmount the mortal pointlessness that permeates this barren world. I am alone. I am empty. And yet, I fish.

He’s literally sending a gift to a DM. Seems like a valid place if any to ask

Where should it be?  I dont use FB or Twitter cos thats full of trash and I dont want to ask on Linkedin cos im connected to the person and I want it to be a surprise.  its a business gift from a sales guy to a top customer.

EDIT:

Haha no problem @TennisandSales been guilty of the same thing before and no offence was taken.

I don't mind - he's asking a community of peers for a business-related gift.  Maybe he'll find that one savage with an awesome recommendation, who knows?

I don't know specifically about fishing in Canada but I do know that $100-150 isn't enough for a "good quality" fishing reel if you DM is a real avid type.

Check out Cabelas for some pricing ideas.

@sketchysales

Big fishing guy here - see if the DM is into fly fishing or bait casting. You can actually bait cast and troll with a heavy enough weighted (10+) fly reel. Shows you care about quality as well.

I am very partial to anything Islander...  https://www.islander.com/ but that shit isn't in your budget.

In your budget - waterworks-lamson liquid fly and the orvis battenkill are two great valued reels. top quality and show you might actually know your stuff.

Ok right here the advice I was looking for, thank you!  I shall further enquire to see if hes into fly fishing or bait casting, I am guess its likely bait casting though as is the most common fishing here and I will see if i can slide an islander past the budget holder lol.

You know what every fisherman I know loves? A pocket rod. (The name kills me)

Basically it’s a collapsible rod so you can literally fish anywhere. A lot of golfers keep ‘em in their bags and fish golf ponds when they’re drunk. Hilarious.

Gotta go gift card. I love to fish and I'm super particular. I'll spend weeks researching gear before buying.
