Any recent success stories getting a new job?

Does anyone have a recent example of them successfully switching sales jobs in this economy?

Everywhere you turn people are talking about how brutal it is out there, how they were laid off 6 months ago and it took them literally 500 job applications in order to get a new gig.

I'd love to hear any stories about there of people switching jobs because they found a great opportunity, even in this market.

  • How did you find the new job?
  • What was the hiring process like?
  • How does your new job compare to your old job objectively? (e.g. Did you move to Enterprise, did you get a better territory? did they give you a bigger salary?)
  • How does your new job compare subjectively (company culture, management style, etc.

I'm asking because i'm unhappy in my current job but feel too discouraged to try to find a new one. I know I'm going to take flak from some people because i haven't already tried but frankly when it seems like the grass isn't greener on the other side its not motivating. job hunting sucks.

It’s far easier to job hunt when you already have a job and are not desperate.

Yup. They can smell the desperation and will take advantage of you.

Do yourself a favor...

Clear 1 hour a day to look. Research the companies. Look up videos and articles. Find a company that speaks and aligns with what gets you excited.

Your situation won't be any worse than it is right now by doing that.

Honestly, I just applied in high volume. I got hired as an AE 2 weeks ago and start next week.

My strategy was a combination of straight up blasting 50-60 applications a day, sending screening questions to those who responded so I'm not wasting my time and only sending targeted messages to the jobs I had connections with or was really interested in.

It's not the most sophisticated strategy, but I'm not unemployed anymore(for now, at least lol).

I also did say I was currently at my old job when I was actually laid off so I could leverage a small base bump.

What’s the ‘ol saying. “You miss every shot you don’t take…”? What’s the harm in looking for a new gig? The worst that could happen is that you have to stay at your current job a little longer.

So I got laid off two weeks before Christmas.

A few days after this, I was reached out to on LinkedIn by a recruiter. They didn't know I had been laid off yet, I was just blindly lucky.

Really enjoying the role and culture here, but as I said I am extremely fortune to have bounced back as I did.

Keep grinding. Come back to us for more help and my DMs are open to you.

It's very tough. I'm not freaking out yet, still have some sevvy left. But it's almost crunchtime and I'm having no luck.

Using a combination of applications, DMs, reaching out to recruiters. Lots of strategies, but its tough sledding.

Hang in there

Not in your spot but I can feel you. Be persistent, takethings positively and don’t get bogged down as you still have a safety net.

I would definitely reach out to recruiters that inMailed me along with blindly applying. Reaching out to Hiring Manager sometime do open the gates. You never know you can get lucky.

It ain't perfect anywhere, even here in Egypt the layoff circle included many recently cuz of the inflation.
All what I can recommend for whoever is trying to find a gig and still didn't get a one to try enough, and for whoever is still trying enough but still nothing yet to try harder and expanding his/her network!

- Laid off 1.5 months into a new role and called up people in my network to ask who was hiring.
- Friends company was hiring and a recruiter led me to another company as well. Did 3-4 rounds of interviews between the 2 companies and had 2 offers
- Chose the friends company because it paid me 25k more annually and had a larger TAM. Great org and all and would have loved to stay at my last company because they were getting a ton of inbound but this is a lateral company in my view.
- New company is great, need to grind and all but it's fun, young, and they are fair which is always a huge plus

. Recruiter reached out to me ( recommended SEO compliance for Linkedn) I did it myself but if I had the Bread I would pay
. 3 Interviews including recruiting, took about 1 month in total. BE PREPARED for mock calls or a presentation. ALWAYS pick their product when selling if given the chance. Don’t do what I did and sound monotone & rehearsed. Have a general template but be relaxed & Natrual.
. From hospitality to Fintech, got hired this year
