Anyone ditch tech and go into a different sales field?

Just got laid off from my AE position and I'm curious with the current state of tech sales (only 36% of reps hitting quota) if anyone has jumped to a different industry?

By no means am I giving up but I'm curious if there might be other fields where you can make 6 figures that anyone has jumped to.

HVAC is indeed an industry with a lot of money right now. At least here in Belgium.

Yeah HVAC and solar are the big things now in Belgium. However, IMO the market is quite tense. Competition is arriving from Germany and France

Yo I for real might do something like this? Maybe a thread or ‘blog’ on various parts of the industry? I like how @ThatNewAE does updates for their job so something like that maybe?

Depends on the company and position. In my private company with have both people with base pay, and people on 100% commission .

What's the earning potential? I've heard some insane numbers (high 6 figs) and am not sure what to think lol

Again very company/product specific and even regional. But 6 figures for sure doable. Some guys I work with have hit $300k +. I have heard of pretty obscene numbers above that from other companies.

It looks like you know something about the 100% comm world. I'm reading that HVAC/home improvement, solar, med devices, industrial equipment and life insurance are the usual industries people find success (heavily territory dependent) in. Do you have any recs or advice?
Thanks in advance!

This question has been asked several times before in different ways. If you want to look at non-tech sales careers, look at anything which helps maintain quality of life for the boomer generation

Actually, good point. You might want to check out the search/SalesGPT bar and see what comes up.

This is the answer. Or at least the path to all the times it's been answered here.
I agree with the boomer quality of life piece too.

True! Since the last year, people are fearing the festival time. The EOY time, because companies seem to be laying off more and in more numbers around this time.

I’m trying to make the switch to investor relations. But a lot of them want 2 years of analyst experience so just started trying to get analyst. I’m in a different position bc I’m only a year out of college so figuring it out still

I'm in Logistics and I don't regret it! Very stable and uncapped OTE even for countries like the UK

Changing industries is almost certainly going to require moving backwards in title/pay/job duties. I already did that once when I went from banking to B2B tech/software, I'm really not interested in doing that again.

Insurance is the way to go 100%. Medical insurance specifically.

VP Sales
I talked to a recruiter the other day and they mentioned that manufacturing and medical sales are going strong right now.

I had worked in manufacturing a few years ago and my reps were making just over 6 figures.

At the time, it was a 50/50 split with a $120K OTE.

Tech was hot, now its AI, as stated HVAC is great when there are cranes in the sky, hell mortgage companies for 2020-2023. If you pick the right spot at the right time anything can be fruitful.
Tech is a staple, its in everything, just get in with a product/company in an industry you are passionate about and make some cash.

I don't have an answer for this, but tech sales has really turned more into a commodity. The way you sell is changing, and people don't throw money at tech companies just because they are tech. It's just not sexy anymore, and companies that make money regardless of their sector are. I am not trying to get out of tech myself, but definitely keeping an eye on a much larger market than I did in the past when looking for roles. Best of luck in your search!

Depends on what is your motivating factor. Sorry to hear what happened. If the money is needed, then follow the money. But tech requires a level of passion beyond money. The money is the secondary effect of our passion.
