Anyone else having trouble hiring?

I am looking for reps for my (fast growing) company.

Either it’s because of the unemployment gravy train or because kids are soft nowadays but I cannot get ANYONE worth while to interview.

Anyone else?

I can already tell I would never want to work with you. You can't find talent, and your reason is unemployment and kids being soft? Maybe it's time you take a look at yourself in the mirror. YOU sound like the problem here

"Unemployment gravy train or because kids are soft nowadays"

Give me a break. I know so many driven young people that are killing it in sales roles. Hiring is hard right now, but you just sound like a miserable person. I agree with @Rallier

I may have misrepresented my position - my apologies.

I’m a young person myself, I have a young staff, and we’re a young, growing company.

My point was it seems the target demo I have for hiring is folks just like my current team. Unfortunately, they’re telling me their friends or college buddies aren’t interested because “they’re sticking to unemployment for now”

so you see…that’s my feedback I get. Love hearing from y’all though, so please keep some positive feedback coming. I’ll certainly evaluate my leadership; I’m certainly not miserable though ;)

Also, as you mentioned hiring is challenging, anything you’ve done that’s worked for you?

I have been looking for 2 SDRs for 3 months. Every time we get a good candidate in the pipe they get an offer at least 20K over our budget from one of the big wallets (SFDC, Oracle, etc) that we can't compete with. The market is FUEGO right now.

I have found it tough, but you’re reasoning is just an excuse.

there are lots of people out there, most not that good, and the good ones want bucks.

I think you need to evaluate what you want whether it’s A players and then go and find them or b players that you coach up. A players are TOUGH to find

In your experience, aside from high OTE, what else are people looking for?

Useful feedback from @LadyCloser b/c our OTE is highest in the industry in my market (average is 100, we're closer to 200) but we work longer hours and almost 0 remote. Is working remote that important?

Base + OTE I think now.

one thing on your OTE, it may be high but how many reps are getting there? If it’s a good percentage then I’d lean on that as that OTE then becomes more achievable.

remote seems to be important nowadays. There’s been a few threads on here saying how important WFH is. I haven’t found it being too much of an issue, but we have hybrid.

I actually used sales Nav to find candidates previously, especially if industry experience is valuable. Set up a search, put in the job title and previously worked at xyz and you should be able to pull a decent list.

i know that the sales world is super competitive right now in terms of hiring/recruiting. You've got to have a good base, commission structure, reputation, product, and culture to get and keep top talent right now. Try re-evaluating what you are offering and the dollar you are paying maybe? also- are you hiring for remote work? That may help!

Good point. Very little of what we do is remote but it is outside sales so we’re not stuck in a cubicle. Very little cold calling as well which I thought would be attractive; however, after this last year it seems most love working remote.

It’s always hard finding good talent. I get plenty of resumes, but half aren’t qualified and the other ones just really aren’t good. If you have good talent, pay to retain it!

being honest I have found it tough because I can't find someone as good as me at what I do.

We pay well; I think the base is the issue. OTE is 200K and keep in mind this is a blue collar industry, but we do not offer a base after training. Straight commission. I am not in saas or enterprise; this is B2C. No door knocking. No cold calling. Straight cash homie. I can add since posting this we've got a couple hires I am pretty excited about. Hate to burst the bubble of the soap box guys who posted in here how much I suck, but once my state stopped their massive subsidy of unemployment, we got applications again. Hand picked people for phone interviews, more selective for in person, and final in person was even more reduced. Hired 2 of the 4 in persons and we've been having record months with them on board. But ya know..I am the problem ;)

Yup, have quite a few golf events both networking and sales related. I try to get to the range weekly and get a round in once a month minimum.
