anyone using a personal website as a dynamic CV?

won't ask for examples for obvious reasons, but I've noticed (somewhat) of a trend in creating personal websites. sometimes it seems that it's more like an online resume.

have any of you guys dabbled with this idea or done it at all? i kinda like the idea of it, but not sure if it's effective or even just a waste of time.

please let me know what your thoughts/experiences are!

EDIT: this is not to replace your traditional PDF resume. it would be a link on it, taking them to your personal site, which gives them more character/layers of the onion.

You still will be required to upload a damn resume. Do the resume. ๐Ÿ˜†

i was just about to edit the post! this isn't to replace the original doc, more an addition to help you stand out. aka PDF resume has a link to personal website which is a little more dynamic, show's more personal flair, etc.

If youโ€™re applying for a creative position, itโ€™s expected of you to have a personal website.

But for a sales position, honestly, noโ€ฆ
If you want to do out of the ordinary things that will match a sales position, Iโ€™d rather :
- reach out to the hiring manager as well as team members to show your determination
- send a short video of yourself as an intro
- even cold call

These action will be much more telling for a sales position and impressive to recruiters

On a side note, personally when hiring, I almost donโ€™t look into any CV but the LinkedIn profiles instead.

For several reasons :
- you get much more info on the companies from previous experiences thanks to LinkedIn
- a bad LinkedIn profile can say a lot of terrible of a digital sales person your applicant is. So donโ€™t forget to perfect your social presence
- itโ€™s easier to identify mutual connections too

The only reason I glance at CVs is for style and attention to detail.

This is where my head is at too. In my opinion, a sales CV should be HEAVY on quantitative metrics and a personal website is more around creativity and flash.
Though to be fair, if you're looking to get in somewhere that gets an insane amount of applications - then you certainly could do this to stand out!
Just make sure you have substance in your CV and website.

I think if someone had a personal website to use as a CV, they wouldn't need a CV.

Imagine a Mr. Beast or Logan Paul with a CV.

some believe everyone should have one - given that they're ridiculously easy to setup nowadays :)

LI is my online resume, and puts me in a searchable place that is accepted by employers in lieu of resume.

TBH, my sense of why an employer wants to know about your online presence is to make sure that there's nothing regrettable in your background that might come back to bite them. Most of them don't have the time to go through all kinds of info unless they're at the point of actually hiring you anyway. That's when they'll want to learn about that ultramarathon or the year long trip to Haiti to rebuild villages or your kitten rescue.

Exceptions would be as adrienmc mentioned, for creatives where there would need to be a portfolio.

When you submit a resume it goes to an Applicant Tracking System. There is no option for personal websites. So unless youโ€™re a โ€œcreativeโ€ type and need to show off a portfolio too, donโ€™t bother with a personal website.

Iโ€™m sure itโ€™ll do wonders for your ego and might make you feel important. Other than that, it wonโ€™t do nothing.

Side note, I saw some dude who had one and he was clearly a Grant Cardone 10x fan boy, because it was all about how he would โ€œtake massive actionโ€ ๐Ÿคฎ

Iโ€™m not a huge fan of those. Problably not full of myself enough. Or lack of creativity
