Anyone using Chatter?

Our Salesops saw chatter in a Salesforce Demo and fell in love.

It looks to be more trouble than it is worth, and quite frankly just another communication tool on top of Slack, Gmail etc.?

Am I just being a curmudgeon? Do people use and love Chatter?

I only glance at it to see what changes the admin team has made to my accounts without my knowledge.

At least you have a way to see that. I'm shocked every time admin decides to change the probability because there isn't a next step

You have to follow each account first before you’ll see the updates in the Chatter feed.

Sounds sloppy. Thanks for the tip

We use it on deals to tag teams when needed (ops, support, etc). We use Slack for all normal comms though. Most of the SFDC LOBs use Slack too anyway...

Unfamiliar with it, how does it differentiate from Slack?

It's a communication tool inside of Salesforce. It acts more like a Facebook feed

I honestly never knew this was a thing but I may just not have access to it because of our SF permissions?

Might be. Open your SF and see

Looks like our admin deactivated it. If we have Slack, is there any other reason we should be using it?

That's exactly what I'm trying to find out. Let's see what the others say

It’s a great place for a quick note if you want said note refreshed on your home feed

Why would you want it on your home feed?

So it's top of mind in case it needs to be touched quickly. For instance if a prospect asks me to call back in an hour, I simply chatter the note on the prospect page and I can see it on my home feed

Got it so instead of a task. Do you use tasks in Salesforce? I do and it's not bad

We use it for notes on deals or opportunities. Not super useful, but if new point of contact or they have an initiative, it helps to communicate it to the team.

We use salesforce.  We don’t use chatter.

As far as I can tell, it’s a tool that sales ops uses to tell me that I did something wrong and that my deal can’t be closed won.

I use chatter to call people to the carpet on stuff, but never for my own notes. For example telling an MDR about a no-show, asking implementation questions. It is a formal record in our company so I only use it for those things

Chatter is super useful.  Tag people on opps, account pages, etc.  Plus it's a good way to have designated areas to pass info on specific topics, and can set groups to private or public within the organization.

I worked for and consulted on Salesforce for many years.  5+ years ago, Chatter was an amazing way of organizing information, Communicating with your team(s) at large for updates, etc using Groups.  It's great for logging activity in the feed on Oppty/Account/Contact (deal updates, stage updates, pricing updates, etc).  Salesforce used it internally VERY heavily.

Now with Slack and other tools available for communication, I think it's going to the wayside.  The good news is that you don't pay for Chatter, so there's no harm in using it and it's still a good functional tool if you use it properly.

Love using chatter! Such a good way to share notes on an account so that others can see if and when you move on or books get reshuffled or the deal gets sold and passed on to an AM

I have to think Chatter goes the way of the dinosaur after Salesforce integrates Slack after the acquisition.

I don't know of a Slack integration inside Salesforce, just the other way around. Doesn't make sense to go outside of Salesforce just to write stuff about Salesforce data. You guys use Slack exclusively?

I use it frequently to communicate with ops, finance, and deal desk. Helpful because all the context they need is right below.

Right. What about communicating with your manager?

We typically do that over slack or phone. I reserve chatter for delegating administrative tasks. I'll also add comments/notes to hot leads for my SDR.

Sounds like Yammer. Used to use that when I worked for  Target. It was insufferable. TGT also uses SalesForce so the likelihood that they switched to Chatter seems reasonable. It was like a Facebook feed pretty useless for what I was involved with.
