Anyone Worked for a Non-Profit?

Interviewing rn for a company selling software to non-profits. Wondering if anyone has ever been in this space and could share their experiences? The potentially huge problem I see is that non-profits...Don't have profits. Budget fucks over a lot of deals to start with, so I'm wondering what selling to non-profits is like. Thanks all!

1 big benefit selling to non-profits. At some point some of them will have too much money and they will be looking to buy.

Most non-profits do not like to have too much additional cash.

Especially when they are governement subsidised, then they need to use their budget otherwise nexts years budget goes down.

That is a classic misconception about non-profits. Just because they are a non profit it doesn't mean they have no money.

There are plenty of non profits with loads of cash. However, there are also non profits that have no money.

I also hate selling to non profits. Never straight forward. Always a board or committee you need to sell to as well.

Is it common for a non-profit to need an outside org to sign off?

Not an outside org, no. But it's typically a board of directors, or a committee, within the organization.

Echo this. I worked at a small non-profit and it was making $5M per year so I cannot imagine how much the bigger ones are making.

I've sold to a few and in my experience the overall deal sizes were smaller (because they were getting non-profit discounts), but the margins were the same if not higher than on our Enterprise customers.
