Applying for new job - tell them about incoming baby?

Hey war mongers,


I've got baby #2 about a month away and I'm applying to new jobs at the same time.


When and how would you broach the topic of this incoming baby and paternity leave?

Some of the advice here is so bad. Be transparent. There is nothing worse for a sales leader than being hired to onboard a new employee with a plan and then have to throw that plan out to start over. They are legally not allowed to not hire you because of a family situation. 

Please, do everyone a favor, and tell the people you are interviewing with that you have a baby on the way. It will help you and them.

Putting the bow on this - one company was very open about it. The other (a smaller startup) said they were hiring to get someone who can come in and produce immediately and so all interviews stopped - in a nice way. Double edged sword and I got both sides luckily enough!

If you need a babysitter I'm quite good with kids. I have 4 nephews and they love me. I monitor their Kahlua intake carefully so no need to worry about overserving.

This happened to me and my start date was 3 weeks before the due date. 

Be honest, if the employer is so savage that they don't hire you for that, then you probably don't wanna be there anyway.

Gauge the room, if it seems it can help your candidacy then tell. If the person is a hard ass and is gonna worry about you taking pto don’t say anything
