Appropriate time to use PTO?

My SDR just said that he has to take time off because he believes he contracted an STD. I appreciated the honesty, but I was unaware if that fell into the vacation time category or sick time category. I also think it was a bullshit lie because there's no way this kid pulls. Any thoughts on this.... Should I call him out on his BS lies or should I let him take the time off due to the fact he was comfortable enough to let me know he contracted an STD?

"there's no way this kid pulls" I'm dying from this LMAO you savage. I think he's bluffing and going for the shock factor thinking you won't question it. Also, that would fall under sick time, you can deny PTO so if you think he's lying then just deny it.

Agree - why do we feel the need to police people? If someone needs to take a day off, let them. The only way you are ever going to get performance from people is if you give them autonomy. So enough with the micromanaging let the kid figure out his STD issue haha

Update: I told him I didn't believe him that he contracted an STD within the last 2 weeks. He then went on to describe the symptoms as a liquid coming from his dick, he had to take 25+ pisses today and they all were excruciating, and then asked if he could show me for proof. So the good news is he has the clap so it'll go away, the bad news is he showed me the proof and my eyes haven't stopped bleeding. I think I'm going to take the month off or until his zpack dosage is finished.

That's a power move. Anyone ballsy enough to show his manager his dick is management material.

Second that...seems like a huge HR violation right there. You are a better manager than that @Deskphonedestroyer, I hope you don't repeat this. I would lose my shit if someone asked me to prove that I have an STD or any other medical condition.

I would reach out to the gals/guys that your SDR has been seeing recently and conduct interviews with them to gauge his situation. If he can't provide you with a couple names, then you know he's a lying piece of trash who just wants PTO to jack off into each one of his socks, which have names.

I would never say I have an STD as an excuse, but that's just me. If you really think he's bluffing you can have a one on one with with, to see if he "cums clean" but if you are not sure I wouldn't risk it.

If he's not self-aware enough to withhold that information from management, I don't want to know what he's telling your prospects on the phones.

Grant the time off, but do him and your company the service of teaching the kid how to behave in a corporate environment.

I think it all depends on the kind of STD some are permanent. So would he have to be permanently on vacation time?
