Are direct mail campaigns dead?

Trying to do a direct mail/gift campaign to key contacts within my patch but having a hard time finding personal info that's relevant.

Any tools, tips, or tricks you recommend to find relevant info to help me with personalize that gifts that I send out?

Appreciate any valuable info. Thanks!

Direct mail ain't dead. Folks love getting colorful non-spammy shit via snail mail. Weird how we've come back around. ๐Ÿคฃ

I did a few of these at my last job. They had a nice return. Make it noticeable but not too flashy or generic.

We get mailers all the time from local car dealerships and credit cards. They must still see value in it.

I usually look them over while reviewing the mail. I throw away the cheesy looking ones.

This exact thing is what Alyce was made for. They have scripts they run against your contact to find anything interesting, then make suggestions for relevant gifts based on what they find by scraping social media, etc. My former org set this up for us, and I really liked it, because at least 60% of the time I got something interesting and was able to leverage that into a gift offer. In this case, you end up sending a link via email to retrieve the gift - when people were working from home, this meant they weren't giving reps their home addresses - and you could see who accepted. Every so often I'd get a "people like [email protected] like gifts like these generic items" but sometimes paydirt - you'd find they liked camping, or travel. Specific sports teams ALWAYS got bites. People love their teams!

If that's not something you want to do, you might want to be a bit more generic, but appreciated gifts. Things like Yeti tumblers are always going to be well-received, and the personalization could be as simple as "I really love mine, and thought you might too".

I read a report a while back that said that postcards had a huge respond rate with millennials due to their lack of real mail. Make it colorful, make it personal!

Like @CuriousFoxsaid, people love getting stuff in the actual mail - it's novel again.

Marketers tend not to like direct mail because it's hard to measure.

This is a fascinating discussion because I've never once considered doing any direct mail campaigns

Handwritten notes to specific prospects are a great way to build rapport and differentiate in my own experience. I should definitely be doing it more.
