Are fake 5 star Glassdoor posts now common place for companies?

Our "VP of People" (stealing a living) has recently been pushing employees to provide 5 star reviews on Glassdoor....after a number of disgruntled (ex) employees left lots of 1 star reviews!

Is this becoming normal practice for HR? Some sort external NPS.

Its a great read to be fair 🍿🍿

This is why ratings systems are a joke.

yup! they even have their HR do it, its always super obvious and thats why I start with the negative reviews first and compare dates ... companies are full of it, even the ones who get "best place to work" awards

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
Since its anonymous, I would purposely leave a 1 star review.

Yeah, this has been a thing for a super long time. Here's a fun way to find them. If the language is eerily similar in a bunch of reviews, it's probably a lot of fakes.

This has been common place for a long time. It was an issue 6 years ago when I started in sales

Look for the reviews that say something like “None that I have found” or “There aren’t any at this company” or “Nothing that comes to mind” in the Cons section and you’ll immediately know they’re fake. The Pros section is typically a general one-liner as well “It’s a great place to work”.

What company doesn’t have a single con? And what kind of person can be employed who doesn’t have the critical thinking skills to identify one? Maybe companies are outsourcing review writing or using some form of AI?

removing my tinfoil hat now…but yes I’ve definitely been at companies that ask for 5 star reviews explicitly. Not ok

yes - i was at a big company that does 9 figs annually and the ceo would walk around and pick 3-5 people every other day to post a random review of the company from home. he gave everyone $25 gift cards as well. they have well over 400 reviews now and he spent thousands of dollars on gift cards to get that rating. they also sued the shit out of everyone giving negative reviews and settled outside of court. they're probably the top agency in the country and are soulless, lifeless, 35k base group that does nothing special. but since they focused on online reputation, they were withable to withstand the onslaught once you get big and are smooth sailing now

The problem is that usually it's either disgruntled employees or padded reviews.
You really need to read them all to get a full picture. If you can find someone to speak with there to tell you what's it's about then do it.

This is why RepVue is a better resource. I think Bravado can have its own version of Glassdoor which is a lot more unfiltered given that people can be anonymous here.

Yes! Every company I’ve ever worked for has done this too. Makes me want to go give a 1 star rating just because.

So like, Gong obviously forced all their employees to post on linkedin today with an obvious template?

Stole this from a LinkedIn post but it's actually good advice. For all of us going through interviews.
