Depends on the trainer. Sometimes you get lucky and have one that actually tells you how it is in the field and puts their scrappy spin on it. I enjoyed the hell out of that.ย 

The rest are dull step by step plays that no one uses after training. Like, ever.ย

Yeah, definitely depends. We have had sales trainers that still sell and stay relevant to what they are preaching. Can't tell someone to do something if you haven't done it yourself.ย ย

Some sales trainers take the job because they want to get out of IC roles and into Strategy or Management roles, but don't see a way to get there via the traditional "top-performer" route (which is not a solid promotional strategy). However, some companies hire infomercial-quality folks who are designed to hype you up and go through decks to "train" you...and it shows in their new hire churn.
