Are there actually any "corporate jobs" where people "don't take their work home with them"?

We all on here mostly agree that sales is not a 9-5 job. Whether it is updating the CRM, sending cold emails, or simply overthinking and worrying about deals, you are never truly "off the clock" as a sales person. But are there even any corporate jobs where people don't think about what tasks they have/projects they are working on at night?

My girlfriend is in marketing and constantly worries about campaigns she's running and the items on her to-do-list. My sister is a PM and is always working after hours to prepare for the next day and is always mentally strategizing how to keep projects moving along. My brother is in product development and will be doing "random tests" that pop in his brain even if it is late at night.

SO, I am wondering, is there even a "corporate job" where people are not worrying about work when they go home at night? Sometimes makes me think I should have been an electrician or something...

Are there "corporate jobs" where people do not take their work home with them?

Def a mindset thing. The sooner you realize it's not worth worrying about your job after work the better off you will be.

You are totally right, it is hard to get myself to actually stop worrying about it.

Entry/mid level jobs like reception and administrative support, payroll, accounting (except during tax time.) Jobs where there's a right and wrong way to do things fall in this category, jobs where there's a lot of grey area/problem solving/etc tend to be the ones where we take work home with us.

good point. unless it is a role that requires being in the office or has strict guidelines that need to be followed, its probably impossible to keep it 9-5.

I honestly don't get the concept of work life balance (to an extent). Maybe it's a sales/customer facing personality thing. but we have a high sense of urgency and things need to get done asap even if it means working extra hours/bringing it home

It's not even urgency - I get pumped by the hours, the accelerators, the big meetings. I actually read a very interesting article recently about this, albeit written in 2006:  https://hbr.org/2006/12/extreme-jobs-the-dangerous-allure-of-the-70-hour-workweek

Yes. Small insurance agencies.

They absolutely keep their 9-5.

I think a lot of this is an American mindset (and certain other countries too). However, I know from living abroad for a few years that in other places they really do leave their work at the door and don't take it home with them.

This is what I've been hearing a lot.  Wish we knew how to manage this better too.

If you want to be the best you've gotta work outside hours.

HOW you work them is what's most important.

Agreed.  It is impossible to "climb the ladder" without doing work outside normal hours it seems.

Trust me I've done super blue collar and office. There's perks to both... But office is by far the best. For so many reasons.

Yes. At least not as frequent. I wasn’t able to turn my phone off at my old job. Now, switched departments in a way i just leave my job at the office, come home, enjoy free time.

my hair literally grows back.

If you know who they are and can find them on LinkedIn, I would reach out and connect and send a small note of who you are and that you're excited to work with them.
