Are things really that bad over at Salesforce right now?

I have long wanted to work for SFDC but in a couple of calls I had with managers at other leading SaaS firms, both guys who came from Salesforce, the reviews were awful. Almost every former AE I have spoken with has bad things to say about life at Salesforce and has told me to avoid the sales teams there.

Apparently, executive leadership is monitoring SDR/BDR activity. The activist investors are apparently on the CEO's throat. They grew too fast and need to be profitable, or the investors will be mad, but the leadership that led them into this is still there.

One of the leaders told me that hiring was done through pure nepotism (some hiring managers were huge on wanting former Greek Life members and former athletes on their team) when Salesforce was at its peak and the product basically sold itself. Then, they realized that when actual selling needed to be done, the sales team could not do any work.

WTF....I have had 4 different recruiters reach out to me to interview. Is it really that bad there?

If I were you I won’t join SF considering what’s been happening since a couple of months!

Can you give me some articles that I should really read? I want to keep doing my own research and do appreciate your comment hence my upvote. I hear a lot has been going on with activist investors.

Everyone I know who moved to Salesforce has left. The complaint at the time was that it was impossible to make money there. Culture aside, that’s enough for me for now until they sort out their structure.

I just left not too long ago; it’s a great logo to have on your resume and if you are lucky you can make big bucks.

Problem is being lucky. Very similar to my logo company. By the end, most teams were struggling. Only a few were making quota across the board. That said, that logo is super helpful.

Great place to learn enterprise sales and you’ll be surrounded by a ton of smart people to help you close deals. They hold you accountable weekly to whatever is in your pipeline and will constantly be questioned about what you are doing on a daily / weekly basis to generate more business. You can make $$ there if you have a good territory but tread with caution.

Agree with this; you'll learn a lot of good rigor around account planning, territory mapping, creating POV's, etc. but at the end of the day, making money at SFDC depends on your patch. I guess that's the same with any large company in a Key or Strat role which I was.

I’ve also been reached out to recently. In the past, I would’ve jumped on a Salesforce role. However, with the recent layoffs and trickling info of culture gone bad, I’m no longer as certain.

Would like to get some more concrete evidence outside of layoffs…

Why are you still asking if it’s really that bad, if every former employee is saying it’s terrible?

In my experience, you need to listen to the former employees

SFDC is cutting a ton of office space in addition to the layoffs.

Things aren't good there.

I’m an AE at SFDC. Metrics are really challenging to hit but the amount of training and experience you get is absolutely unparalleled IMO.

Especially as a Core AE (leading a team of specialist AEs on account strategies and big multi-cloud deals). The network is also unparalleled IMO. Salesforce alums are in the leadership of every company out there and if you build an internal brand well, the upside is huge.

Personally, I see a successful run at salesforce as a big career accelerant just because of how much I feel like I’m learning.

Nice to hear. Has the culture of nepotism and the whole "boys club" type of thing sort of died down at Salesforce lately or is it still mainly the good ole boys network when they hire AEs?

SF is a great learning place, you really become good at pov, account planning, forecasting and prospecting. But it’s hell right now, upper management is fuming downwards withe micro management and crazy quotas. They have become metric obsessed because they need to control something for investors. More layoffs are coming at least those are the rumors. Everything great about the company culture has left.

And the nepotism is very true here, which is why 40% of AEs weren’t selling shit for years and now their finally doing something about it

It's a great place to learn to sell, but the culture has really gone down hill since the layoffs in November. As an AE, it would completely depend on territory, but I feel like so many territories are saturated, that it'll be difficult being successful now.

Appreciate your feedback man. Would you say that the culture is a lot less run on nepotism now ever since Salesforce made the push for diversity?
