Are you taking the vaccine? (POLL)

My friend just passed out taking it, and I just lost my other friend the day after he took it, curious what the consensus is here, you know, off the record, where you don't get canceled.

P.S. I'm sick of my friends dying

Are you taking the vaccine?

I can tell you I took both Pfizer shots with zero side effects. I know others who did get some mild 4-6 hour flu symptoms. But I took it because I trust the medical field more than myself including my friends who are PhDs in various fields of medicine from the best institutions on earth with zero incentive to lie to me. Not everything is a conspiracy.

This was my experience as well, although I took Moderna and did get symptoms for a few hours after I got it. Took 24 hours or so for the symptoms to kick in, but they were mild. Its obviously everyone's personal choice, but I never once contemplated not getting it. Shit, I wanted to be a part of the clinical trial just so I can go watch a ballgame with 50,000 of my closest friends again.

Sorry about your friend @SADNESSLieutenant.  Like GeneralCorp, I also had both Pfizer with no side effects, other than being tired but that was probably from stress/lack of sleep working on a deal.

I am not in an at risk category but I usually have to travel regularly for work and to see family who live abroad and don't want any chance of not being able to should the routes open.

Nope. I'm not an ~* anti-vaxxer *~ but given the survival rate for COVID is 99.8% for me, I don't see the need for one. I've never gotten a flu shot either. You can still carry and transmit the virus even if you're vaccinated, so the argument of "get it to protect others who aren't so healthy" doesn't land with me. Lastly, I don't trust big pharma at all.

I think a lot of people questioning whether getting vaccinated is the right decision for them often feel a lot of social pressure to just get it. It seems a narrative of "If you don't get vaccinated you're selfish/stupid" is really being pushed right now. I think it's sad.

Vaccinations are a personal medical decision that everyone needs to make for themselves. You only get one body, after all. If you decide the vaccine is the right decision for you, go for it! But it shouldn't be just because your friends are all getting it or a cool celebrity urged you to.

They literally are not personal medical decisions though. You're required to get other vaccines to go to public school, travel, etc. because they are only effective at eradicating a disease if everyone gets it. With the number of people deciding not to get vaccinated, there's a chance the rona will mutate and we'll have to go through all this bullshit again.

I'm getting it to protect old people, get back to live football and concerts, and stop having to wear a mask in public.

If only more people understood this point... people who have made vaccines a "personal choice" are the ones who are responsible for eradicated diseases rearing their heads up again. Why should anyone ever get Polio or TB again... just to name a couple.

Also nobody understands the long term consequences of COVID. Even if you are young and healthy, there is a lot of emerging data that shows very negative long term consequences, so why risk it.

Lastly, Pharma has so much to lose with these vaccines going south.. so they aren't just pushing something that is untested. Sure, they will make a fortune but they also stand to destroy their reputations and companies with negative outcomes. /endrant

Hey, I'm not saying that there aren't limitations that come with choosing to not get a vaccine but it is still your choice at the end of the day.

Sounds like you've come to the decision that the vaccine is right for you. Some people have come to the decision that it isn't. That's fine on both accounts. Someone's reasons for being for or against something aren't your, or my, or anyone else's business. The only person that should have control over your body and health decisions is you.

What you’re missing is that by choosing not to get the vaccine, should you get covid, you will absolutely use resources that could be used to treat other illnesses that do not have a vaccine.

so it’s not just about personal choice.

It’s about preventing a strain on the healthcare system. Look at what’s happening in India.

To your first point, I get you're coming from a place of compassion. Nobody likes disease, suffering, or death. But I have to wonder if you felt the same about flu shots - by your logic, everyone should also have been getting flu shots every year. I don't know about you, but all the people I know who got flu shots were elderly or working in healthcare...I never heard of a young, healthy person getting one. COVID and influenza have a lot of commonalities, so I just wonder why people are so hell-bent on a COVID vaccine, but most didn't care to get the flu shot in years past.

The long term consequences of COVID are unknown, you're right. But in that same breath, nobody knows what the long term consequences of the vaccines are either. We've had vaccines for polio since the 50s, giving us lots of time to study the effects. The COVID vaccines have been out for mere months...there's no way to know.

I straight up respectfully disagree with you on your third point. Pharma has absolutely pushed out vaccines that are not only untested for long term effects, but unapproved through regular channels (emergency use only.) They've also worked out deals where they're completely non-liable for any negative effects. Not covid related, but both Pfzer and Johnson & Johnson have had multibillion dollar lawsuits brought against them for illegal conduct, unsafe practices, misleading marketing, and more... Those aren't companies I'm comfortable putting my trust in, full stop.

I'm pretty much the lowest risk group out there...the chances of me becoming hospitalized due to COVID are much lower than the chances of me getting hit by a car.

There are people using hospital resources because they're morbidly obese and now have heart problems, or smoked cigarettes their entire life and now have lung cancer. Should we start banning junk food and cigarettes and forcing people to live a healthy life style to reduce strain? When does it end?

See, I respectfully disagree here. The problem is that not getting the vaccine directly affects others. It is absolutely everyone's business. A person who decides not to vaccinate can contribute to the disease mutating, pass it to other vulnerable people even if they have been vaccinated (we know it is still possible to get COVID, though it drastically reduces the likelihood of both contracting it and needing hospitalization).

We let the government put iodine in our salt, fluoride in our water, and make sure children receive vaccinations before going to elementary school. Taking health decisions out of the hands of the individual is nothing new.

You can do whatever you want until mandated otherwise, and I doubt anyone will be changing their mind because of a comment in the war room, but making health decisions at the government level is absolutely nothing new in America and choosing to not be vaccinated is absolutely putting people other than yourself at risk.

Can you give any examples of pharma pushing vaccines that aren't ready? I haven't done any real research, but I have never heard of any. I'd like to read more about that.

Also, my tech company (average age is probably like 32) has folks bring the flu shot into the office every year and most get it done. People who aren't old or working in healthcare definitely get the flu shot, even if you don't notice it. Plus, there is clearly a difference between a disease that shut the world down and the flu.

Completed my 2 shots for 3 simple reasons:

1) Humans have been studying vaccines since the 1700s
2) I love to travel and the vax is going to be a gateway to having access to that luxury especially places such as Europe.
3) I trust the medical field more than I trust "uncle billy-bob" on facebook preaching about this "harmful vaccine" with his G.E.D education and machine operator job.

I am sorry about your friend, however, people die from heart issues that go undiagnosed all the time especially young adults.  Reason being, they are not getting tests a cardiologists would perform on someone 40+, that would normally catch those underlying issues that could cause a heart issues in young adults.  This is a lot more common that you think, think about how frequently you hear stories about high school athletes collapsing during sporting events.

The problem here is that its too easy for you to tie it back to the vaccine, and rightfully so from a thought process standpoint at least.... However, if covid/vaccines weren't a thing this post would most likely be encouraging us young adults to get our hearts checked out due to the unfortunate death of a healthy young man.

I already got my second dose and am very relieved to have some protection. None of the vaccines are 100% effective but the more people get it, the less likely covid can spread. Plus, not everyone can take the vaccine like some cancer patients on chemo. They're extremely vulnerable to this thing so we need herd immunity to protect vulnerable people. The other thing is the more people who have the potential to catch covid increases the chances that there's more mutations that render the antibodies ineffective.

Essentially, the more people that aren't vaccinated, the more likely we'll have setbacks to get rid of this damn thing.

I was leaning more towards "no" a few weeks ago, but I've switched to "yes".

The reason for being no is that me as a young & healthy person, I am at very little risk of getting symptoms with COVID, and so the vaccine felt unnecessary with possibility of getting side effects.

Why I've now switched is that with some new strains of the virus (UK-strain in particular), younger people are effected more. Looking at India and how the country has collapsed as well, COVID does pose a big risk, if not for me then for the community/society I live in. And there seems to be very few lasting side effects (if at all) of the vaccine.

one thing that isn’t being talked about is how it is effecting womens’ menstrual cycles. I know it did that to me and quite a few other women I know.
