As a "mentor" here is what I would say to those looking for one

I feel weird saying "im a mentor" but I do have a few relationships where I meet with people every few weeks just to help them with their careers.

Sometimes its to talk through deals.

Sometimes it to help prep them for a presentation for a prospect, or with their internal team.

Ive helped SDRs get promoted, Ive helped AE's close deals.

(COOL, we get it your AwEsOmE)

I say that to say this:

Keep asking and keep being open.

The people I chat with, they all made the first ask. Then I continue the relationship.

They ask for help/advice, I give them suggestions and then they actually put it into place.

When I see people want to improve I want to help them even more.

If you are looking for a mentor make sure you know exactly what you want help with and be brave enough to actually reach out.

DONT ask someone to be your mentor. thats awkward.

Just ask them to help you with something small and specific.

If that goes well, ask again.

If that goes well, ask to connect every few weeks.

Has anyone else done this and found success?

I love learning, it's one of the reasons I get up in the morning.

Maybe I'll slow down after I've closed some billion-dollar deals lol

Really good post. Ask the small questions first! It’s so simple, but makes so much sense.

Absolutely! I actually by chance of fate, started asking the right questions and struck up a conversation with a gentleman that now he and his wife play a HUGE role in my wife and I's life in many aspects(marriage, parenting, business, and other things) and we actually moved from Michigan to Florida a few years back for proximity purposes. It has changed our lives completely and I wouldn't be in sales if it weren't for that relationship.

Solid advice. It always seems as if those relationships simply develop over time.
