As a salesperson, how do you handle when someone tries to sell you?

My thought process:

When I get cold called, I usually try to let them down easy because I know the struggle. I'm straight forward and just tell them I'm not interested for *insert-random reason.*

The downside of this is that you get a lot of pushback. The gist of my question: what is the most tactful way you've found to reject some other hustler without destroying them.

One of my fellow sales reps is a fucking wizard at turning the sale on them. Any time he gets cold called, he somehow books a meeting with the rep's manager to sell to them. This really only works if your product is versatile enough for different verticals but if you can pull it off, try it some time. It's great practice regardless.

Our sales enablement person is great at this- guy gets cold outreach all day everyday, and always gets a meeting with their relevant contact for us.

If it's something I'm truly not interested in I will tell them that I am not a good prospect for them. I let them know I am in sales and I wish more people would just straight up tell me that they are not a good prospect for me!
This also usually reduces the amount of mindless follow-up attempts as well!

My thought process too, but I'm shocked - they keep coming.

I love when this happens, I listen to their pitch, give them all the time they need and then give them my feedback, if they did really well and it's not an expensive product I usually buy, as one I can appreciate how getting a sales feels!

I straight up just tell them I respect the grind but this isn't a good fit, not interested, not my purview, etc.

If I can help direct them to someone more relevant, I will, but I'm just honest and straightforward with them. I think people generally appreciate it.

If they are good I try and let them down easy, maybe even entertain them a little so they can get a good review if it is recorded.

If they are pushy and clearly did no DD then I try to end it as fast as possible.

Its crazy how many bad product-slingers are out there given sales a bad name.

I'll always listen to the pitch and if I'm not interested I'll be honest and tell them to keep grinding

I tell them I know the struggle and that they Better use their time with another call.

Listen to the pitch and provide feedback. If it’s not a good fit just tell them you’re not a good prospect for them.
